I am a graduate of Columbia University, Teachers College, where I received my Master of Arts in Sociology and Education with a concentration in Education Policy. I am also a graduate of Spelman College, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I have worked in education for over 10 years, serving as a high school math teacher in Georgia, tutoring students of all ages in New York City and coaching students in South Carolina on math content for the ACT and SAT. I am very passionate about the subject of mathematics. Many of my former students often expressed anxiety and fear about the subject matter or labeled themselves as "not a math person", but by the end of the semester their views drastically changed. I also enjoyed watching my strong math students expand their knowledge and interests. I utilize practical and thoughtful strategies to help students increase their understanding and enjoy the light bulb moments that occur after explaining and dissecting approaches to solving complex math problems. I truly believe everyone has the ability to excel in mathematics. Outside of teaching, I enjoy traveling, visiting museums and spending time outdoors.
