Certified Tutor
I am Patrick! Attended the University of Maryland College Park and studied Kinesiology. Now that I have completed that chapter, I am pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering in hopes of combining my knowledge of biomechanics and engineering and pursuing a career in robotics. In my experiences, I have noticed that creativity can be required to capture a student in the class. I have had brilliant professors who could not reach their students. Taking this into account I believe the key to being a successful tutor is to personalize each lesson to the student. This helps not only teach the topic, but shows a new way for the student to approach any class they enroll in or test they take in the future. My goal is to not only teach the topic, but show you how to strengthen your ability to learn independently.
I excelled in every math course I took in high school. I earned a 5 on the AP calculus AB exam and a 760 out of a possible 800 on the math portion of the SAT. Because I did well early on, I became a resource for my classmates when we came across a tougher topic. This is where I informally gained experience tutoring. I could process the information and create ways to explain it to my peers in ways they would understand. Because of this I believe I can help you pass any class and prepare for the standardized tests that can help you get into a good college.
Math is a difficult topic. Understanding the concepts is just step one. Once you have a grasp for the concepts, the ability to confidently approach any math problem within that specific facet comes through practice. After each session, I will leave you with practice problems to go over and will use future sessions to address any issues you had. Once you are comfortable with one facet we can move forward and build off that. Math is a cumulative process and I will make sure you are comfortable before we move on. If we do not spend an adequate amount of time on a topic before moving forward, I would not be setting you up to be successful.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how I will approach our sessions. I do not want to waste your time but I feel I can provide valuable assistance as you prepare for your math classes/tests. Before our first session I will likely contact you to find any specific skills you are looking to strengthen, what resources you have available to you (textbooks, library, etc.) and how confident you feel before we start.
I am new to formal tutoring but extremely enthusiastic. I hope to be able to not only teach you, but encourage you to let the skills math involves translate into real world problem solving skills.
