I have a degree in mathematics from Arizona State University. To get this degree, I had to become an expert in Calculus, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry. I took 5 semesters of Calculus, the last two semesters being Advanced Calculus and Differential Equations.
In order to pass these classes, one has to be an expert in Calc 1, 2, and 3, which is light years above and beyond what is taught in AP Calculus in High School. I also took Abstract Algebra, Linear Algebra, Partial Differential Equations, and many statistics classes.
I chose math because from as early as I can remember, I always had a passion and love of the subject. In elementary school I was always a couple years ahead of my classmates, studying math books in the library that were a couple grades above me, with other accelerated students my age. This culminated in me learning advanced mathematics at ASU.
At this point I can say I've tutored hundreds of students as a private tutor. I travel to people's homes, meet at local libraries and coffee shops, and even do sessions through Skype. I've worked with middle school kids who are learning the basics of algebra for the first time. I've also helped college students taking Calculus for Business and Economics. I enjoy helping people who feel that math is impossible, come to a place of understanding and enlightenment.
It can be done through patience and hard work. I love seeing the "aha" moment, when the lights go on. I've helped so many people pass a math class they felt was impossible at first. I've lost track of how many students I've helped accomplish their goals, move on to the next step in there educational pursuits, or move into their dream career, after they got their pesky math classes out of the way. Getting calls from students and parents, thanking me for all my help, after they got a passing grade, is what motivates me and makes me enjoy what I do.
I have tons of experience, from basic math at the middle school level, to more advanced mathematics at the college level. I've seen and done it all. I have an extensive array of mathematical knowledge, plus a passion for math that is rare. I'm very patient, and meet students at their current level of understanding. I have a gift for figuring out what students know and don't know, filling in the gaps, and building a strong base of understanding. I regularly hear from my students, "Why doesn't my teacher explain it this way in class" Or, "Wow, that totally makes sense now. I wish my teacher had explained it that way."
I promise to be enthusiastic and highly motivated to help you understand and achieve success in your class! I have years of experience and a knack for helping people make breakthroughs in their classes. I don't want you to just barely pass with a "C." I want you to develop such a great understanding of the subject, that going into your final you have the confidence to shoot for an "A!" Once you start understanding topics more and more, math becomes fun.
My specialties are Calculus, Pre Calculus, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Statistics.
