Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to teach with the purpose of making sure the student gets a full understanding of the subject or concept being taught. Standardized questions < Intellectual communication.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Communicate with the student to execute a plan to cover all subjects that the student may be struggling with.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By building the student's confidence in the topic that I am providing assistance with. Confidence will help the student master the subject and also push him/her to tackle any hardship down the role and be a great leader.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try different methods that the student may respond to better than the methods tried before.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Teach them what it means to passively and actively read. Put stories into a real-life perspective.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Engaging in conversation rather than asking the usual standardized questions.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Explain to them the importance of the subject in relation to their future.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Interactive activities, videos, conversations, and examples.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By assisting them in mastering techniques to understand the subject they are struggling with.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I assess their weaknesses and strengths in the subject they are needing assistance with. I will also monitor their performance when I am teaching.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Depending on their learning style, I will seek to accommodate any needs.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Videos, writing, and examples.
