What is your teaching philosophy?
Start at your own level, do not compare yourself with how others performed when they started learning another language. You are unique, and you will learn at your own pace.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know the student and assess their need for learning/receiving tutoring in Spanish through conversation.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By giving the student the tools to start a conversation and letting the student put steps together to do so.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Using encouraging words, and constant positive reinforcement/feedback.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try to remind the student of steps to make the language more manageable. Constantly reviewing what has been previously learned.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Start at the student level and stay at their level of understanding, and little by little, introduce more words and sentences to the reading.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Starting at the student level and making progress from there.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Motivational skills and being dynamic with teaching makes learning feel like second nature to the student.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Constant practice and review of what has been introduced through the class and through time.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By telling the student what has been accomplished from the start to where the student is now.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Through constant progress assessment; the student may not even notice.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Starting where the student is and adapting teaching to the level that is more comfortable to the student.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Computer, practice sheets, and lots of movement.
