What is your teaching philosophy?
Tell Me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Complete an analysis of the student. Determine what they would like to get out of our sessions. Also, find their strengths and weaknesses.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Allow them the opportunity to solve questions on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Always be encouraging and patient.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would be patient with the student and break the information down as simple as possible.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Practice makes perfect.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Make it fun. Incorporate things they are interested in.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
One way to know if a student has understood everything is if they can explain it in their own terms.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Always be encouraging. And praise correct answers.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Asking questions. Also by having them complete a practice test.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
See how they respond. And always have a backup plan.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
A practice test to assess their need, practice questions, and a list of equations to help them. My most important tool is patience.
