I have been an educator for 8 1/2 years and absolutely love working with students of all ages. Although I have a strong background teaching middle school math, I have tutored all elementary subjects.

I recently got married and moved to Texas. Between going to the gym and running errands, I am a paw-rent to a cute little furry puppy. I enjoy reading and singing, and will often give concerts to my puppy (who always asks for an encore!).

I have a passion for working with kids and truly believe that there is no such thing as "I can't." Working in underprivileged schools taught me persistence and to be creative with my lessons, and because of that, I had incredible student interaction and participation in my classroom.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will introduce myself and get to know the student a little. I want to know likes/dislikes about school and what they like to do for fun. When I know about their interests, I can tie that into their learning.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Motivation is the key to helping a student learn. I would encourage encourage ENCOURAGE!!! A student needs to believe in his/herself first and foremost. After that, I would give different examples until a student understands the concept at hand.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would use different examples to try to help the student. Sometimes it takes a little distance from the problem, in which case we would take a break from the current problem and circle back to it later.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe all students can learn, no matter the background or the age. All students have their own learning style, and it is up to the educator to determine it and adapt their teaching to the student.
