I earned my MFA in creative writing from Portland State University and my BA in English from the University of California, Berkeley. These days I teach writing and publishing at Portland State University, Portland Community College, and Mt. Hood Community College. I've taught students in the subjects of English, writing, history, philosophy, and sociology, and I was also a writing tutor at Chemeketa Community College's Online Writing Center, as well as the Assistant AfterSchool Director at Prospect Sierra Elementary and Middle School. Between teaching children and adults, I write fiction (my novella is forthcoming in 2021) and I write and edit for Poets & Writers, Propeller Magazine, and The Gravity of the Thing.

How would you help a student stay motivated?
I aim to motivate my students by breaking down tasks or assignments into critical, but attainable steps. It is my goal to promote my students' sense of accomplishment during the learning process, as well as at the completion of the assignment.
