I earned my MFA in creative writing from Portland State University and my BA in English from the University of California, Berkeley. I currently teach writing and publishing at Portland State University and Mt. Hood Community College. In the past, I have mentored college students in the subjects of history, philosophy, and sociology, to promote critical thinking and writing skills. I was also a writing tutor at Chemeketa Community College's Online Writing Center, and the Assistant AfterSchool Director at Prospect Sierra Elementary and Middle School. Between teaching children and adults, I write fiction stories, I am a music journalist for Oregon Music News, and I edit for Propeller Magazine, Portland Review, and The Gravity of the Thing.

Q & A

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I aim to motivate my students by breaking down tasks or assignments into critical, but attainable steps. It is my goal to promote my students' sense of accomplishment during the learning process, as well as at the completion of the assignment.
