Hiya! My name is Joe Rozek and I would like to be your tutor. In the past I studied philosophy at Vassar College, ecology at Fordham University and then at Lehigh University I had a brief stint as a PhD student in evolutionary biology. There I quickly found out that I was more keen on teaching than I was on doing research and have since transferred to obtain my teaching certificate in high school biology. Despite my many years in biology, I never found it to be easy. Science is hard. There's a great deal of memorization associated with the subject, as well as difficult concepts and esoteric terminology. Let me help you by lending you my expertise in effectively studying and learning biology.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that subject matter should be made interesting and that studying for tests should be broken down into manageable chunks. Raw enthusiasm never hurts.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

For a first session I would try to identify difficulties that the student is having with the subject matter and organize the subject into discrete study blocks.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By teaching students methods for studying and learning they can become more effective on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

This is a tough one - coffee was always helpful for me. I think every subject is inherently interesting - life is a big place and there's always so much to learn. If you can hold onto that during a 3am study session, everything becomes easier.
