What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is to learn the personality and interests of each of my students. I am able to relate education to their interests to pique excitement and make learning more fun and interesting for them. I believe in hands-on learning whenever applicable.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During the first session with a student, I will begin by just getting to know them as an individual. I want to know their passions, interests, strengths, and weaknesses. How they feel about school and learning in general. After that, I would begin with an overview of the material we will be working with.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would help a student become an independent learner by teaching, modeling, and demonstrating techniques he or she can use in the future. Helpful study techniques and resources, how to best learn based on his or her learning style, etc.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I help students stay motivated by discussing their future plans and dreams. I want to see what their goals are, and then I can explain to them the importance of their education in meeting those goals.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I am very good at explaining and teaching difficult concepts in a way that students have not learned before. There have been multiple instances in which students say something similar to "Oohhhh, my teacher never explained it that way, that makes sense!"
