I have always had a love of learning, and it is an attitude I always seek to impart to students. About half of my extended family (including my parents) are educators, and I am of the firm belief that education can change lives. That certainly doesn't mean it's easy. No one is good at everything, and sometimes all it takes is an outside push, or someone to explain the issue a different way. Tutoring can provide that missing element -- whether it's a sudden "I get it!" moment or a more gradual path to understanding.
As for me, I graduated from Macalester College, a well-known liberal arts school in the Midwest, where I majored in political science. I have had the pleasure of working with kids in a number of different environments, from volunteering in schools to working at childcare/preschool facilities. And, (mostly) unrelated to my tutoring abilities, I am also an old movie aficionado, lover of fantasy novels, and world traveler whenever I get the chance. In high school, I was one of those cool kids who attended math camp and learned to solve Rubik's Cubes -- a skill that now just makes its resurgence as an occasional party trick.
