Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to make the subject interesting and fun. I believe that a student will learn better and faster if he/she finds the subject challenging, fun and if it caught his/her interest.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

We will evaluate together his/her school material. Then I will establish a communication bridge, and I will try to make the student feel comfortable with me and at ease. At this point, I can start working on a lesson plan.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By making him like the subject. By giving him tools to understand it better. Providing him/her with a method and interesting material.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Motivation is something that is built session after session. Keeping the student interested in the subject by providing practical approaches and diversifying the learning material goes a long way to motivate the student.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will provide him with some other examples that will help him/her grasp the concept. Most of the time, a practical example does wonders with understanding an issue. Repetition without repeating the same material.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Since I'm tutoring Spanish, I will encourage them to think in Spanish. However, I will also try to explain to my students the general concept of the story.
