In 2010, I earned a Master's degree in special education from Arizona State University. I also hold two Bachelor's degrees, in psychology and communication, from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

I am a highly qualified and fully certified cross-categorical special education teacher as well as an elementary education teacher, certified to teach grades K-8 (K-12 for special education).
I have been a full-time teacher for the past seven years and have been working in the education field for over ten years. I have taught students ranging in grades from kindergarten through 8th grade. Every school year I have tutored students before and after school and have enjoyed being able to celebrate with students as they experience their hard work and dedication, outside of school, pay off in the classroom.
Being a special education teacher has given me the opportunity to work with students in a small group setting, similar to tutoring. It has also given me the opportunity to work with students of different ability levels that learn in a variety of ways. I love finding ways to help students relate and connect to the material in order to make learning more meaningful and engaging.
I have taught and tutored a variety of subject areas. I enjoy tutoring all subjects, but the subjects that I most frequently tutor are language arts and elementary math. I also love to teach study and organizational skills.
I am passionate about teaching. My philosophy is that all students can learn. I believe that if a student is struggling with a concept, it is my job, as an educator, to be creative and find a way to teach the concept so that each student understands.

My style of teaching is to facilitate learning. I believe it is important for students to be actively involved in the learning process and for them to take ownership of their education. I help guide students in the right direction and teach them the skills needed, but ultimately, I am there to help them build their academic confidence and discover that their own potential is limitless.
Outside of tutoring, I consider myself a very well rounded person. I enjoy playing volleyball, working out, and watching sports just as much as I enjoy reading a book, gardening and watching movies. I love to travel and have been to Africa, Europe, and Puerto Rico. I enjoy learning new skills and have been taking cooking classes and a beginner knitting class.
