I have taught biology, botany, ecology, and environmental science at Longview Community College since January 2011. It has always been a principle of mine that any scientific concept, fact, or theory should be explainable in everyday language, and be understood by someone with no scientific training. If an instructor can explain a complex principle or theory in simple language, that instructor thoroughly understands what they are teaching. I start with this, and introduce terms and jargon later. It brings great satisfaction, and enjoyment to explain an interesting scientific topic to another person, who is interested in said topic, but does not yet understand it. It can open-up a whole new world of wonder and understanding, and can change that person's life for the better.
