Coming from a homeschooling background, I've come to deeply value personalized, one-on-one learning. When I tell people what I am studying in school, there is almost always a negative response to my math major. This is a difference I know I want to make as a teacher. I have always wanted to be a teacher and be a difference maker, and when I knew math was my strong suit, I really saw that I can show people how to appreciate math for the beauty that it is. Having a teacher like that changed my view of school. I want to be that teacher for my students. I want to be able to help them achieve, help them grow, and especially help them know that math is beautiful. I want my students to learn math skills, as well as problem solving, critical thinking, and perseverance. These traits will serve them well past the classroom.
