Hi, my name is Sophie! I am originally from Massachusetts, but now I live in Texas, going on three years now. I love to learn, meet new people, and explore new places. My travels have taken me to Ecuador, Panama, and Spain, where I have practiced my Spanish. I also love to read books of all kinds and write in my free time. I have tutored students from elementary school to college in Spanish, literacy, and general homework skills. I want to share my curiosity and enthusiasm for learning with every student I work with.

I have tutored mainly math-related subjects for K-12 and college students for more than 5 years. I utilize graphs, interesting symbols, and a more user-friendly language to convey complex math concepts according to my students. I also teach conversational Chinese Mandarin. My goal is to let my students learn the subject efficiently and be prepared for exams, such as PSAT, SAT, or GRE, in a rather relaxing environment.

I also have a Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Memphis. I'm currently work full time as a Clinical Trials Research Coordinator in Memphis, but I love math and helping others achieve their goals when it comes to learning and understanding math!

As a lifelong learner, I am driven to help others achieve their academic goals. I am currently a part-time instructor for math, science, and computers. In addition to having a Masters degree I have over 10 years of business experience. This has allowed me to help translate to students how they can use the information they are learning at school in the real world. I have worked with students of all ages and truly love helping students master the basics of their subjects so that they can succeed in their classes.I am most passionate about tutoring math and helping students understand how to break down problems. I work to evaluate their current comprehension and strive to build a strong foundation of knowledge. I often tell my students that math is just like learning another language. Once they learn to master the basics they are able to read and solve problems successfully. I care deeply about my students' success and I strive to make learning fun and relatable to their world.

I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology and working on my teaching certification currently. Soon to be attending school once again to obtain my maters in Counseling and one day be a School Counselor.I have studied ASL in High School as well as College and still use it day to day at my job. Currently I am working with elementary students who have varying learning disabilities and their own IEP's.

I feel lucky to have taught all over the world for the last decade. I am a certified General Education and Special Education Teacher for grades K-6 and have spent the last three years teaching in the public school system of Manhattan, New York. Prior to that, I taught math and English at a Private school and was honored to be the resident musical director for a children's theater company on the Upper West side. This summer, my husband and I moved to Oregon where we currently reside with our dog, Nina. Teaching is my passion and I am grateful every day for the ability to do so!I believe in multiple-sensory education and using many routes toward the same goal. I use a process which relies on questioning and independent learning methods so my students reach the 'answer' in a way that is easily memorable and something they can take ownership of and be proud of! I studied Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology for 3 years before switching to Biological Sciences, so I have extensive knowledge and experience in molecular and microbiology.I love art, writing and photography, singing and being silly. I love little kids and I believe that adults are just big kids, too. I am looking forward to getting to know you and helping you!

I received my Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania. After college I joined a Tri-Institutional Ph.D. program in Chemical Biology where I carried out my coursework at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and the research portion of my degree was performed at The Rockefeller University in New York City. After completing my Ph.D. in the Spring of 2013 I then moved back to Massachusetts, which is where I grew up. While obtaining my degrees I have taught and mentored students in science from a variety of different age groups. These experiences have taught me how to tailor my teaching methods to a particular student. I chose to pursue a career in science because it is a subject I find interesting and exciting. I have spent the last 10 years advancing my understanding of Biology and Chemistry and I enjoy using this knowledge to help make science less confusing and more fun for others. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family and spending time outdoors playing with my dog, going on runs and skiing.

As an educator, I believe that the best way for a student to learn is for the student to understand how to learn. While how each student learns is different, the need for an encouraging and warm environment is universal. I have worked in many different educational settings, including as a teaching assistant in the Broadcast Department in the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, as an online course designer for the Department of Defense, and as an instructor in the Business Communications Department in the Price College of Business. Though these positions have been strikingly different, one thing has stood out to me: Creating a space for open dialogue between a student and an instructor is key for any student to feel comfortable as well as capable of learning.I am a native Oklahoman, holds a Master of Professional Writing and a Master of Library and Information Studies, both from the University of Oklahoma. I have worked as a blogger, ghostwriter, freelance journalist, and technical writer.
