I'm Connor, a computer science, linguistics, and Japanese major at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I'm in my third year expecting to graduate in May next year.I'm passionate about education and have experience tutoring in high-school and teaching programming at College Gate and College Academy summer camps. I studied abroad in Japan at Kobe University's Intercultural Studies department, and also studied broadly while in university, with coursework in mathematics, cultural studies, economics, and business.The subjects I tutor are Japanese and different levels of mathematicsfields that I particularly loveas well as standardized test preparation (SAT, SSAT, ISEE, and HSPT). I have found that studying becomes more enjoyable and effective when content is connected with examples of application. Finding funny, memorable ways to apply course content is my favorite way to internalize the material. I view learning as equipping myself with different tools to better understand the world. With this attitude, studying became truly exciting for me, and making education more accessible and fueling curiosity have become my passions.In my free time, I like to indulge in my hobbies: reading, cooking, laughing with my friends, adventuring in YouTube, and going to concerts.

I have a lot of educational theory knowledge thanks to my master's degree from NYU in TESOL and Foreign Language Education, and I've put that into practice during my teaching: elementary ESL and high school Japanese and English/ESL. I've also taught English in elementary schools in Japan, and worked online and in person with kids and adults in ESL and Japanese. I have experience tutoring for standardized tests as well. I believe that we can work together to construct knowledge instead of just lecturing at you while you memorize facts. I want to help you learn, grow and realize your own potential!

I am a current student at the University of Vermont. I am completing two Bachelors in Linguistics and Japanese, and am a researcher for both departments. From high school to the present day I have tutored people my age and younger, and I have experience working with refugee/ELL students; I have collected 2 years of experience. Though I can tutor several subjects, I am most passionate for Japanese, and feel it is my true calling. In my experience helping those who want to learn a foreign language like Japanese, I have found that scaffolding, or building off of, your interests in film, food, literature and culture has a profound and positive effect on your learning. Out of all of the core classes, English and Writing classes were always the ones I excelled most in.
