I am a life-long learner with a love for education, tutoring, and mentoring. I believe that each person is unique, which means that his or her method of learning is also unique. I find it very fulfilling helping others to find that method and to excel in whatever field they are pursuing. My personal fields of interest are languages (Spanish, Italian, Classical Latin and Greek), the humanities (Literature, Writing, History) and philosophy.

I graduated with a B.A. summa cum laude in Classical Languages and History from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. I have since taught Latin at public and private schools to students in grades 1-12, and I strive to make the study of Latin come alive for students by using the language conversationally. In addition to my experience teaching Latin, I have previously taught classes and tutored students individually for the ACT, SAT, and SSAT. I can teach all subjects on these tests, and I have developed my own materials that are based on previously released tests. I particularly enjoy helping students master these entrance exams and seeing them gain confidence as they realize that they can can succeed on the test.

I am a graduate of CUNY Hunter College with a Bachelors in Latin and Ancient Greek, as well as a Masters in Adolescent Latin Education. I have years of experience tutoring just about every age group and level of Latin (6th grade through college), even founded an afterschool Latin tutoring program for elementary school students, and taught Middle School Latin for the DOE.I am passionate about teaching students because I found myself through Classics, first stumbling on Ancient Greek through the historian Herodotus, "The Father of History," and teaching myself the language outside of a school setting. This is how I found my love for classical languages and learning in general really. This interest extended to Latin, for which I was prepared because of the rigor of Greek. A scholarship through my school allowed me to study Greek abroad in Athens, Greece; and another scholarship in the name of the Pope's Latinist, Reginald Foster, brought me to Rome, Italy to study Classical, Medieval, Renaissance, and mostly spoken Latin through the Paideia Institute.Furthermore, I encourage students to find the beauty of Latin and Greek for their own sake, which still nonetheless echo through every modern discipline today. In this way, they will become better readers and writers, and ultimately better learners, as these classical languages shape their minds.

I am a current sophomore at Barnard College studying Biochemistry with a minor in Dance. I have previous tutoring experience in AP Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, for both high school and college age students. My personal teaching philosophy is to lead my sessions with a student-based approach. As a current student myself, I understand the frustrations that we can encounter when working to learn a new subject, and I am committed to working with students to help them learn in the best way for them. Outside of school, I am on the dance team, I pursue neural engineering research, and I am the Assistant VP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in my sorority.

I believe that as an instructor I am meant to impart more than just knowledge of a particular subject to my students; academic growth is only one part of a holistic education. Teachers should also be mentors to their students, fostering personal and ethical development both by example and through classroom interaction. I believe that education and guidance are indispensable factors in the growth of future generations and the development of a world inspired by integrity and personal responsibility.

I'm wrapping up my undergraduate career at Columbia University, majoring in Classical Studies. That means a dead language--Latin--and a lot of history, philosophy, mythology, and the like. I love it; I love the way it makes me think and interact with language. The idea is to write in our own living language, and I'm currently finishing up that self-indulgent, semi-autobiographical first novel. I think it's great---we'll see if anyone else agrees.I attended the Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT from 2002-2006. I worked hard, and I did very well. I was admitted early to Harvard my senior year, where I enrolled in Fall 2006. Long story short, my father was chronically ill, and I left school to help care for him. He required more care, and for longer, than anticipated, but it was not a choice I would ever reverse. And if, for now, qualities born of that experience must recommend me more than the usual benchmarks of achievement, they may be of more value anyway. Compassion and patience, with recourse to humor, are certainly invaluable for a tutor.I have always been able to do well in academic settings and test-taking. Much of this success derives from long-hours devoted to assignments and preparation, but no small part owes to the way my mind learns. My mind is suited to books and the classroom, and this is a convenience for which I am very fortunate. I recognize, however, that every mind learns in its own way---a reality that institutional education cannot accommodate. I make it my priority to determine what methods of demonstration and motivation are best suited to every student I work with.I look forward to working with you. I really do love learning, and think I have a knack for sharing that love.

I was a Latin teacher for over twenty years teaching all levels of Latin including Advanced Placement and collegiate Latin at multiple schools and universities. I am now living my dream of being an attorney, and the content knowledge and study habits I developed in high school and college helped me on my journey, and I'd love to help you on yours and keep my Latin skills sharp.

Hello! My name is Stephen and I am a Junior at Yale University studying Psychology and Education Studies. I am very passionate about working with kids and pursuing a career in teaching, and my main goal is to help students achieve their full potential!

I've been tutoring for nearly five years now-- over six hundred hours both privately and previously, as President of Peer Tutoring at my high school. I am now a rising sophomore at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University, on track for concurrent majors in Asian Studies and Global Studies. In high school, I was Valedictorian as well as President of the National Honors Society; in college, I have made Dean's List both semesters, have two simultaneous Research Assistant positions, and have been nominated as an Honors Teaching Assistant in the Fall semester! Someday, I want to work in academia, both out of my love for learning new things and teaching rising students. I tutor all kinds of history, English, essay writing, ACT/SAT prep, pre-algebra and algebra, biology, and, believe it or not, classical and medieval Latin. I also have experience tutoring students with learning difference like ADHD!
