Education and the sharing of knowledge are instrumental in the human experience; the sharing of knowledge is impossible if we do not understand one-another, it is for this reason that I have been studying French for nearly 5 years, in both high school and at Arizona State University, and wish to learn at least 4 additional languages. At ASU I earned a BA in French, and I also participated in a study abroad program during the summer of 2015 in which I went to Qubec City and intensively studied French as a foreign language, which deeply enriched my knowledge of the variety of the French language. While completing my French degree, I also worked through a BS in Biology. Science and the scientific method have likewise inspired me and deeply influence my way of thinking, as I feel it should for almost anyone. Science, and especially biology, pushes the bounds of our understanding of life on earth and medicine. I have spent a great deal of time providing balance between science and the humanities. Even in one of the most famous works of Franois Rabelais, Gargantua stresses the importance of balance to his son Pantagruel, including the suggestion of at least 5 languages. Borrowing from this sagacity, I hope to mold others as well to see the joy of education, science, and language.

My lifelong personal, professional, and academic experiences have given me extensive knowledge of Spanish, French, and Italian. I was raised in a multilingual environment and hold degrees earned in 3 countries (a BA in the U.S., a Master's in Venezuela, and a Doctorate in France). I find it easy to transmit my passion for languages to students and offer courses that challenge and motivate them, through meaningful and, at the same time, fun activities. I enjoy tutoring high school and college students who want to improve their grades, and also adults in general who are interested in becoming proficient in either Spanish, French, or Italian, and in understanding the cultural complexities of the countries where these languages are spoken.

I am an adjunct instructor/professor of business, marketing, and management with 27 years of college and university teaching experience. Furthermore, I have taught in other countries such as Russia, and I go back and forth to France, which is my origin. Subsequently, I hold four Masters degrees which include an MBA in Management from Long Island University, Masters of Liberal Studies with a concentration in History and Political Science from StonyBrook University, an EdM in Education Administration from Columbia University, and an MLS in Library Science from St John's University. I completed my PhD in Management at Walden University. For the past 16 years, I have been a private tutor in the following subject areas; English, Writing, French, Basic Italian, History, Psychology, Social sciences, and Bible Studies. Furthermore, I am ESL certified from the Language School in Montpellier, France, where I obtained a certification in TOEFL and TOESL. I am experienced in APA format scholarly writing and can assist in all levels of written expression. It is difficult to say what my favorite subject is because I love tutoring and teaching them all, as I truly enjoy helping and mentoring students. If I had to say what my favorite subjects are, I would say the business area because of my teaching experience, the languages, and the writing areas. However, I truly enjoy all the subjects especially ethics and social sciences and hard sciences.Teaching and Tutoring PhilosophyIn my 27 years of teaching experience on the college and university level, and 10 years of tutoring experience, I have developed my own teaching and tutoring philosophy. From these experiences, I have learned that people have diverse learning styles. For example, some of my students are visual learners, and others are auditory learners as well as kinesthetic learners. Therefore, I have taken on a similar philosophy to Howard Gardner who believed there are many different kinds of intelligences and students have different ways they learn best. Hence, I employ many different learning modalities in my teaching including lecture, presentation, question and answer, group work, brainstorming, visual aids, and role-playing simulations. For tutoring, I use visual and auditory, based on the materials that the student provides. I try to use diverse learning methods that are tailored to each student. My philosophy is that all people can learn given the proper supports and tools. Learning curves vary in length but everyone can achieve and succeed with the proper supports. In addition, I believe that critical thinking and high order cognitive learning is crucial to success in higher education and careers. It is important for students to learn how to compare, contrast, apply, analyze, synthesize, evaluate, and implement. Critical thinking is excellent training in executive decision making and judgment which is crucial for students entering the work place or advancing their careers. I have a strong passion for teaching and it gives me great satisfaction when I see students grow in their knowledge and critical thinking as a result of what I can impart upon them.My interests outside academia include going out with friends, dancing, karaoke, general and space science, sports (hockey, American football, basketball, etc), technology, statistics, music, traveling, French culture, experiencing multicultural diversity, and classic cars.In closing, I think it is important for a tutor to be a knowledgeable teacher, a role model, a mentor, as well as patient and open-minded to all cultures and learning abilities, and styles. My goal is to fulfill that role which is who i admire li Manning who is my role model.

For 6 years, I was an Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at my local community college, where I taught Introduction to Cultural Anthropology. I also substitute taught the 100-level and 200-level French classes occasionally, and I volunteered weekly in an English as a Second Language class. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, where I double-majored in Anthropology and Archaeology and minored in French. I spent my junior year abroad at University College London, where I took classes in anthropology and Egyptology. After graduating from Wash U, I attended Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge, England, where I received my Master of Philosophy in Archaeology. My thesis topic was a stone toolkit produced by Neanderthals in southwestern France.I love foreign languages and traveling abroad. I have been lucky enough to visit Morocco, Hungary, Mexico, Canada, and several countries in western Europe. Besides French, I also speak a little Italian and a tiny bit of Spanish. I enjoy working with foreign students, as I have been one myself-- twice! The word that best describes my teaching style is inclusivity. I want to make the material I teach accessible and enjoyable to everyone, regardless of their prior familiarity with the topic. My teaching methods incorporate a combination of written materials (textbooks, workbooks, homework assignments) and discussion. I realize that some people learn better by reading the material, while others learn better by talking about it.In my free time I enjoy reading, dancing Zumba, playing board games or hiking with my family, and taking my dog to the dog park.

I am currently a middle school and high school French teacher in the Chicago area. This is my 5th year of teaching.Previously, I studied at Illinois State University where I earned my BA in French with an endorsement to teach K-12. During my studies at ISU, I had the opportunity to spend a year in Angers, France immersing myself in the language and culture.I firmly believe that students are capable of learning a language if they are willing to put in the extra effort. Daily practice and exposure to the studied language will improve comprehension and production. Students must also be willing to express themselves, to the best of their abilities, in the French language in order to feel more at ease in the language. Errors are not failure but a way to learn for the future.

Bonjour! I am a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina where I obtained degrees in European Studies and French. I have always been a giant history buff and liked taking Social Studies and History exams in school because I thought they were fun (yeah...I was that kid). I have been studying French since my freshman year of high school and continued my studies in college. I studied abroad in Dijon, France where I learned not only how amazing real Dijon mustard is but all about French culture and the French language. My studies on Europe focused on the European Union, European History, and International Relations. My goal in tutoring is to make subjects exciting and relatable to a student's interests. I know how difficult it is to pronounce an 'R' in French and how hard it is to remember what modern countries were in the Kingdom of Prussia, but I'm here to help!I am available every night for tutoring as well as all day Tuesday-Thursday.
