I recently graduated with a double major in Economics and Government from Bowdoin College. I look forward to tutoring high school math, science, and reading, as well as specific ACT and SAT prep! I have always loved working with people, especially students. I have done a wide variety of activities related to teaching: I led a Special Olympics Organization at my school, taught swimming lessons to all ages, coached a swim team, coached other sports, and have tutored younger students. I really enjoyed standardized tests when I was in high school and have a lot of practice helping others with them. I am excited to figure out how to help more students meet their goals!

I obtained my BA in History from the Honors College at the University at Buffalo and a Masters Degree in Education from D'Youville College. I am finishing my certification in E-Learning from George Mason University. I have nearly a decade of experience tutoring students with seven years of full-time teaching experience at all ranges of skill, need and interest. I tutor all levels of history, political science and economics and have taught such courses at all levels. I have a particular interest in tutoring economics but welcome all students in my areas of tutoring. My tutoring style is learner-centered and rooted in forming good working relationships with the student. My goal is to raise the bar of excellence for every student pursuant to an approach that fits the needs of each student as opposed to a one size fits all approach. As for interests outside of tutoring, teaching and education, I am a big fan of movies, exercise and the outdoors.

I didn't get into Yale because I'm naturally smart. I'm not that guy that can just look at a problem on the board and just figure it out in seconds. I hate asking that guy for help because he doesn't know how to explain somethinghe just gets it right away. He's never sat down and broken it down. I never was that guy and I will never be that guy.I will always be that guy that stays after class to asks questions because I didn't get it right away. I will always be that guy that is in office hours from start to end until I get it right. My whole life I have always been the guy on the other side of the table. I am the guy who always gets tutored, and that is why I make a great tutor. I know how people want to be helped, I've been there. I love tutoring people in anything: college essays, algebra, linear algebra, calculusanything I have ever loved to do. Tutoring has taught me empathy and patience. Two vital components that a great tutor has. I am hard working and I love seeing others succeed.I will able to tutor for most of this summer, so about from the end of May to mid-August. I am on break and would love to tutor. I will be able to tutor for about 20 hours a weekor more, depending on what comes up this summerpreferably during the day but if evenings are prioritized then I can work evenings as well.

After practicing environmental law for 27 years, I decided to change careers. I chose teaching because that is something that has always interested me, and chose social studies because my BA is in history and history has been a lifelong passion. I have a background in law, government and public policy as well, having been a practicing environmental lawyer and having earned a Master of Public Administration degree. As a Scout leader for 25 years, I was very much involved in teaching at all education levels, all the way up to graduate school.Raising my own four children also involved a great deal of teaching. As a lawyer, I enjoyed most working with younger lawyers and helping them become better researchers and writers, and with high school and undergraduate students considering a law-related career. The common thread in these experiences is working with young people one-on-one or in small groups. For these reasons, I believe tutoring plays to my strengths as a teacher. When I was in the classroom, my assessments always used actual AP questions. My students performed very well on their final exams, which were full-length AP tests using questions from past exams, averaging. In world history, I wrote my own test questions, since test banks accompanying the text involved little more than memorization. I try to inject more rigor into my lessons and assessments.I never go into a professional activity with a client without a great deal of preparation. In my economics and government classes, I prepared detailed study guides both to prepare myself and to assist students. I believe my students' performance in AP classes was directly related to these guides. As a tutor, in my first meeting with a student, I will assess the nature of their concerns with the subject. I will review with them the syllabus and their recent exams and assignments to identify the key problems. Problems might include study habits, difficulty with key concepts, and absorbing the sheer volume of material, among other things. Having identified the problems, I will tailor tutoring sessions to the individual student's needs. For example, lessons may concentrate on practice with difficult concepts Many students are visual or kinetic learners, so the use of graphs in economics is especially useful to get to the solution, and to build on basic concepts, even when answering multiple choice questions. In this regard, my study guides will provide appropriate material for helping students. I view these guides as living documents and constantly evaluate and revise them to meet student needs..As a tutor of college students, I will draw on my own experience working with summer interns as well as my education and professional experience. Law, public administration, government, and economics, in addition to US and world history are some of the subjects in my professional repertoire. Most important, because I have taught or practiced in a number of subjects before, I have a wealth of material and information that I can use in my tutoring sessions. For subjects I have not yet taught, I look for useful material on line. In general, I do not view tutoring as something that happens only during the hour I spend with a student. I maintain records on each student's needs and progress, and plan ahead for each meeting so as to tailor lessons to individual needs. I prepare session notes following each meeting with a student to help prepare future lessons and to assess my own performance.

My name is Max - I'm a senior at Yale College where I study Economics. I'm a rising sophomore at Georgetown University studying Mathematics with minors in Physics and Economics. I'm also pre-med and hope to be an orthopedic surgeon someday. While I originally hail from Cape Cod, MA, I will be spending most of my summer in Boston taking Organic Chemistry at Harvard. Outside of the classroom, I'm a part of Georgetown's club rugby team and also participate in GUMSHOE, a club that teaches math and science to inner city students. I also enjoy going for runs to the monuments in DC and playing in pickup soccer games! For me, I especially enjoy tutoring mathematics because I think it serves as a foundation for a number of other subjects and also enhances problem solving ability. I'd like to see those I tutor consider studying mathematics in college just like me.

I am a graduate of Princeton University, where I earned a bachelor's degree in economics. My work experience includes 5+ years as an investment analyst at a private wealth management firm and 18 months at a digital media start-up. I first began tutoring in high school and have successfully helped many middle school and high school students improve their grades and/or prepare for standardized tests. While I'm comfortable teaching in many subject areas, my specialty is standardized test preparation. In addition to having a strong understanding of the subject matter covered on these exams, test-taking strategy is a strength of mine, including time management and general multiple choice strategy. I was a National Merit Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction in high school and I enjoy helping others perform to the best of their ability on these sometimes stressful exams. As a tutor, I strive to keep students engaged by employing a more hands-on approach to learning. I aim to minimize time spent "lecturing" and instead focus on working together with students to solve problems. I've found tutoring sessions to be most productive when students remain actively involved in the learning process.I played soccer through college and remain an avid sports fan. In my free time I enjoy reading, swimming, and playing basketball.

I graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Environmental Science and Economics. I tutored throughout college, providing assistance to students on anything from essay-writing to understanding sustainability initiatives such as composting and energy conservation. I was lucky enough to have encountered incredible teachers throughout my education, and intend to provide the same care and attention to each of my students. I am passionate and creative, and will work hard to find out how each student learns and how to best help each student understand the material they are having trouble with. Each student deserves the opportunity to feel successful, and I will work with the students and their parents to best achieve their goals.
