My name is Jerry and I am currently a Manager of Strategy & Logistics with DC Public Schools. Prior to this position, I worked for 5+ years as a financial analyst at Fannie Mae. Through work at both organizations (in addition to receiving a Bachelor and Masters of Business Administration from Howard University and the University of Maryland, respectively), I have become very well versed in topics related to business, finance, accounting, and economics. I enjoy every opportunity I have to relay my interests in these areas and show that learning about these topics will help students both in school and in everyday life. I have worked as a tutor for Smarthinking (a Pearson company) and Wyzant, and I am excited to bring my expert knowledge to the students here at Varsity Tutors!

I am currently a strategy analyst as MasterCard. I have tutored for the past 4-5 years to both college students as well as local Miami high school students. I love working with students because engaging in the process of educating individuals is highly motivational to me and due to that I can't help but motivate my students to learn as well. I believe my experiences have allowed me to become rather successful in tutoring and have taught me how to effectively adapt to various students and how to properly teach them difficult concepts. More so, I have learned how to motivate students who may feel discouraged and have also learned how to create an environment in which the students feels as if they can succeed. Outside of tutoring, I love to exercise, invest in the stock market and learn how to code (I am currently learning Python and R). It is important to realize that in learning, there isn't a single successful way. Rather, each student is unique and their path to success is too.

Hello, I'm Mr. Basheer and I have over 18 years of teaching English as a foreign language and more. I'm a licensed substitute teacher, certified in TEFL, and I have my BBA/MBA in business management. And I'm continuing my DBA with the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater. As a professional I truly believe that teaching is one of the noblest profession all over the world. This is specifically why I've chosen education and a doctorate degree in international business. Business and education both play key parts in our society and help to foster a balance of empowering the lives of us all. This is another reason I feel elated; especially after students show an increased amount of enthusiasm after lessons. And whenever my students are truly satisfied with the content of my teaching, I'd offer a chance to have an open dialogue on any topic in order to increase their conversational skills. This will always help to build and motivate their sense of morale. Moreover, learning English is fun so we will be sure to appreciate our learning experience and time together. See you online!

I believe education plays a vital role in the success of young people. I believe everyone is capable of learning given proper opportunities and sufficient attention. Most importantly, I believe I understand how to help, motivate, and communicate what I have learned to students and can therefore contribute to enhancing the prospects of young people.

My passion is education. I have taught in three countries in three languages to a wide range of students at universities, non-profits and private companies. I have a knack for making the difficult seem easy and interesting. My aim is to ensure that each student leaves our sessions feeling confident enough that they know they can easily tackle the next level in their school curriculum without feeling overwhelmed. Our sessions are light and jovial in tone, yet focused and deliberate in approach. I hold a B.A. in Economics from Emory University and a Masters degree and PhD coursework in Art History. When I am not working, I love to explore New York City and discover new things about it. Writing excites me, and I am working on a book about my experiences overseas. I am also very athletic. Having completed two marathons, you can say I enjoy a good run. I love being on the water and know how to sail.

I'm a recent college graduate from the University of Chicago and young professional based in Washington, DC, and currently working in international development. I have substitute taught STEM and English to all levels of college-preparatory high schoolers. I also established a peer-to-peer tutoring and mentoring program at my former high school and developed curricula centered around standardized test preparation and college admissions. In college, I coordinated outreach to promising underrepresented minority students, developing and implementing seminars designed to guide them through the admissions process for top universities, bolster their chances of success, and connect them with resources aimed at increasing access and affordability. Among other things, I have a strong background and experience in various types of academic and professional writing. My stints with college classes and all sorts of professional organizations have equipped me with foundational skills in technical writing, strategic communication, blogging, and journalism that I'm always excited to pass on to the next generation of academic superstars!

Hello,Having gone through some tough schools and classes (and even ones where I didn't have the attention and interest that may have helped), I know that that reality is that you will not understand every subject quickly.Did Einstein understand relativity in an hour, or did he have to work years to get it?I was an assistant to a Nobel Prize winner when younger. You know I did not get everything right away. But he was a great teacher and empathetic person and it worked! So I know that anyone can learn almost anything even if they think the subject is hard, or the others are "too smart".Our school system is not always perfect about motivating learners on all subjects. Nor does it deal with pressures and expectations from other classmates, people and what society expects of you. SO WHAT! I truly love to see the smile when someone says, "I get it".As a public school JHS and HS teacher, my license is in Biology 7-12 and have taught other sciences. I also have advance degrees in other areas and have taught it on a college level.I have a BA in Economics from Queens College (but had more courses in science), an MA in Economics from Northwestern University, and MBA in Marketing and Finance from the University of Chicago, and an MA in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education.I do not have a "favorite" subject to tutor. A lot of learning is seeing the value in the subject, and the beauty of utterly understanding it.My teaching philosophy(s) are many but boil down to a few things: 1 What does the student need to understand? 2 What does the student understand at this time? 3 How does the student learn (visually, via reading, examples, etc.) and 4 Teaching to reach the student's goal for what they need to learn. And 5 make sure the student understands before proceeding. (Another way of saying - to not waste time and finding the source of the misunderstanding.I look forward to doing learning with you that you feel good about and results in you "getting" what you want to know.Thank you for reading this.
