Hello! My name is Corinn, I have been teaching and tutoring for more than 3 years!I graduated in 2018 with a BA in English. While in college, I participated in music ensembles (saxophone) and sports.I can speak Mandarin Chinese, and have lived in the US, China, Malta, and South Korea.

I currently teach English to Chinese speakers online. The majority of my students comment on my patience and ability to make them comfortable when tackling a difficult language such as English. I have a law degree from Penn State and a undergrad degree in international business from Dickinson College.

I am a senior at Vanderbilt University, studying Cognitive Studies and Business. I am working towards becoming a therapist and I love working with students especially through academic struggles. After I graduated from high school, my love for learning languages took me to join the Army and study at the Defense Language Institute, where I fell in love with learning Mandarin Chinese. Over the last 15 years, I have graduated with a degree in Chinese from Georgetown University, studied abroad at the International Chinese Language Program in Taipei twice, and lived in Taipei for two years. I also spent five years as a Chinese language teacher at a private high school in Texas where I taught Mandarin 1 through AP Mandarin (using both simplified and traditional characters), and took students on summer tours of Mainland China. Many of my students began studying Chinese for the first time in my classes, and have since gone on to study Chinese at universities like UCLA, UT Austin, and Georgetown. Over my years studying and teaching Chinese I have learned a variety of different teaching techniques that I am able to adjust and customize for each learner's individual needs. Learning languages is a long process, and I love to help students find the aspects of Chinese language and culture that excite their imagination and love of learning.I also love to teach English literature and writing! My second major at Georgetown University was in English, I spent several years as a high school English teacher, I have a master's degree in secondary education from Southern Methodist University, and I am certified in Texas to teach English Language Arts for grades 8-12. As a tutor, I have frequently worked with students on essay writing skills, grammar, and literary analysis. Each student's needs are unique, and I tailor my English tutoring sessions to the needs of each individual learner. I'm a recent graduate with honors from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor's Degree in East Asian Studies and a minor in Philosophy. I spent a semester abroad In Shanghai, China in my junior year, during which I was lucky enough to develop my spoken and written fluency and explore a beautiful and unique part of the world.I have been an academic tutor and chess teacher for over 6 years. I have loved teaching since I was quite young, and aspire to be a professor in the future. In my years as a tutor I've instructed Geometry, Algebra I and II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry, Creative Writing, the GRE, and most frequently SAT and ACT preparation.I developed a love for tutoring test preparation for two major reasons. First off, I'm a puzzle solver by nature and I genuinely find the tests fun! That sounds bizarre to most people, but I think one of my principal strengths as a tutor is the ability to instill this positive and optimistic attitude in my students as well. A good attitude helps to inspire confidence, which in turn yields tangibly improved test results.Secondly, my college application process was extremely stressful and difficult. I look back on the experience as unnecessarily frustrating and taxing when it should have been exciting. One of my primary missions as a tutor is to not only help prepare my students for their exams, but also to develop a personal relationship as a mentor throughout the college application process to ensure they stay focused, but also happy.In my free time I keep busy with a myriad of hobbies. I'm a 3 time national chess champion, avid poker player, semi-professional gamer, Rubik's cuber, singer and string musician, and stand up comedian. I also enjoy hiking, skiing, ultimate frisbee, and playing tennis.
