As a practitioner for over a decade, and at various levels of the education system, I have come to embrace certain values and guiding principles. Firstly, my client's education experience has to be student-centered. What this has meant for me is that I have had to be more deliberate in my lesson planning, execution and student assessment. I have been careful to ensure that I consulted with the students to ensure that that they played a key role in the learning process. This is especially important in defining roles, responsibilities and rules that bind the partnership. Secondly, it is critical to ensure that the student benefits from a holistic approach towards learning. The meaning of the cura personalis (consist commitment to developing the whole person) is deeply etched in daily approaches and interactions. As a result, I tend to spend quality time on mentorship, coaching and motivating to excellence. Finally, I am a firm believer in the view that every student should be able to solve some societal issue. Hence, I support the students in the pursuit of creativity, innovation and critical thinking. I'm a recent graduate of Northwestern University, a native New Yorker, and a recent addition to Varsity Tutors. I grew up in Westchester County, where I volunteered as an assistant creative writing teacher in high school. After high school, I moved to Evanston, Illinois for school. I studied a wide variety of subjects in college: from Medieval Literature to Buddhist Psychology. I moved back to New York after graduating to pursue a career in the arts. I currently work as a reader for the literary director of an Off-Broadway theatre company.

I recently started teaching through Varsity Tutors, and before starting here I have had extensive teaching experience both in and out of the classroom. I have taught ESL here in the U.S. as well as in Morocco, Nicaragua, and Spain, both to classes and in individual lessons. I have also taught Spanish and Italian, and practiced conversational French with interested students. I am passionate about seeing my students progress and gain confidence over the course of our lessons together, and I really enjoy getting to know them and their interests, which helps guide my teaching approach. Though I tutor a range of subjects, I am most passionate about helping students conquer Standardized Tests (specifically the reading and writing sections) and English. I am currently studying at Northwestern University, on the track to a Bachelor of Arts in Statistics with a double major in Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences, which is just a fancy way of saying math-based economics, and a minor in Legal Studies as well as Marketing. After my undergraduate studies, I plan on working in consulting for a few years before attending law school. Finally, I hope to combine my law studies with my consulting work to become a well-rounded corporate lawyer. At Northwestern, I provide SAT tutoring to Chicago-area juniors and seniors. In high school, I tutored third through fifth graders in basic reading and writing skills and developed their interpersonal skills through group crafts and teamwork activities. While I am open to tutoring a broad range of subjects and tests, I am most passionate about Math, Statistics, Economics, and US History. In my experience helping students prepare for the SAT, I have found that interactive activities and group work really help! I am a firm believer in the work-hard-play-hard mindset and find it to be absolutely necessary for a balanced lifestyle, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students.
