Having always had a love of school and learning, I initially began tutoring as a way to gain community service hours but then realized that it meant more to me. As both a general homework and specialized reading tutor (trained in administering DIBELS and differentiated reading instruction), I have a wide array of experience with different subjects. I'm a Physics major at the University of Pennsylvania, and I've been teaching and tutoring across various subjects for 7 years. I mostly tutor in math and science, but also tutor in language and humanities classes, and standardized test prep. My teaching style is whatever we make it to work best with your learning style -- I think it's most important to understand what methods work best for your ability to absorb concepts. Since graduating, I have tutored private clients for standardized tests, such as the ACT and GRE. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, I have also tutored small groups of kids around my neighborhood. I enjoy helping students improve in all academic subjects and I am adept at creating study materials in a variety of subjects to improve students test scores and GPAs. I was a very involved student on and off campus and completed both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in 4 years, so I learned excellent time management and study practices. I'm originally from the Chicago suburbs but travel a lot for work and have lived all over the world, and love being able to communicate in the native language of places I travel. I speak both French and Nepali at an advanced level! Most of my previous tutoring experience comes from my time serving in the Peace Corps, where I worked with students of all ages and supported their learning in and outside the classroom on a variety of subjects. My tutoring style is very personalized to the student I am working with; I love to start by identifying the student's broader goals and how excelling at the subject at hand will help them achieve their goals, then breaking down the steps to mastery of the subject into bite-size achievements.
