I first fell in love with tutoring when I was hired by the University of Delaware as an in-house tutor in 2018. I had the privilege of working with students in Spanish at all levels, from novice to advanced. Since then, I have branched out into other academic areas including elementary education and high school/college humanities. My favorites are writing and foreign language, but I'm always excited to learn and grow with a student in any subject. I take a tailored approach to my students' learning, making sure that I understand exactly what they need and am able to provide it. Each student is unique, and I strive to make sure that they feel accomplished and prepared at the end of our sessions.I've got a Master of Arts degree in Spanish Education, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Studies, and I am on my way to a doctoral program in learning and teaching!I can't wait to meet you, and to make a plan for success!

Growing up tri-lingual (fluent in German, Swiss German, and English) and having lived in 3 different countries in my life, but primarily growing up in the U.S., has instilled in me a love, curiosity and passion for languages, people of different nationalities and of course teaching. As well as the internationally recognized University of Cambridge based CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) certificate, I have 10 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language (of various subjects- i.e. grammar, writing, pronunciation, speaking, conversational, college prep etc.); TOEFL Test Prep and German.I have taught in Switzerland, New York City and now here in Atlanta at various organizations and schools. The most recent schools I have had the pleasure of teaching here in Atlanta include: Interactive College of Technology, Education First, TALK Language Center, Alta Language Services and more. I have experience teaching private one on one lessons, as well as group classes. I find that one on one lessons are much more beneficial for the student since the student receives my complete attention and together, we have the ability and flexibility to tailor the lessons to his or her specific language goals.

I graduated from Denison University in Ohio with a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish and a minor in Political Science. While attending Denison I played Varsity soccer all four years and ran track for 2 years. I, also, studied abroad for a semester in Valencia, Spain. After graduation I was a volunteer in the Republic of Panama. Since my return, I have been teaching students Spanish in classes ranging from 4th year IB elective to 9th grade required exposed me to a broad range of learning styles, abilities and incentives. I am extremely passionate about the Spanish language and the history and culture in the Spanish speaking world. I also enjoy discussing and studying history. I would describe myself as passionate, intelligent, energetic and athletic. I jog daily, and compete in half-marathons and long distance relay races in locations around the United States. I also play on a co-ed adult soccer team weekly and occasionally an adult kick ball team. Reading avidly, gardening and landscaping, and spending time with my family represent other important leisure time activities.

I graduated with Honors from Spring Hill College with a Bachelors of Science. I studied Psychology, English, and Gender Studies. I will be completing a dual masters degree in Social Work and Theology and Ministry from Boston College. While in high school, I served as a peer tutor for a wide range of subjects. In undergrad, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for an Abnormal Psychology class, as well serving as an ESL teacher for resettled refugees and immigrants living in Alabama. I spent three summers working as a camp counselor, giving me experience working with children in a wide range of ages. In an academic setting, I love to be challenged because I find it encourages me to expand my thinking in new ways. As a tutor, I try to encourage a dedication to problem solving. I believe that nothing is unsolvable- some problems just need outside the box creativity to conquer. Nothing makes me happier than the oxford comma.

I've always had the drive to serve others because of the intrinsic gratification it gave me. I know becoming a physician would permit me to work and serve others in a way no other career would allow. I wanted to instill joy in patients by uplifting their quality of life.I hadn't considered otolaryngology until I was given the opportunity to observe in the pediatric otolaryngology clinic. I was instantly sold as I observed a 5 year old patient in clinic getting hearing aids for the first time. The mother broke into tears, happy that her child could simply appreciate her voice. I was astonished. I'd never considered a world in-which I couldn't experience my mother's laughter. This resonated with me, knowing I would be honored to impact someone's life in such a way. This was the first of many unique experiences that I valued in the otolaryngology department. I was inspired watching surgeries that ranged from eustachian tube placement to retrieving an apple piece from the bronchus of an 11 month old. From this, I knew the specialty that best captured my passion for medicine and restoring the quality of life for patients.Working hard to strengthen my candidacy for medical school, I attended a post-baccalaureate program to strengthened my scientific foundation. This program helped me address academic areas that needed improvement and helped me formulate a method of accomplishing just that. I consider my resiliency as a measurement of how passionate I am about becoming a physician. I often challenged myself by asking "If my patient asks me this molecular biology question, how hard would I work to solve it?" which motivated me to fight through my academic setbacks. I learned that in medicine I have to let my desire for helping others motivate me through these challenges. I gained an understanding that as a physician, I would have to be open to adapting to the conditions of my patients and not be deterred by adversities. I have grown to appreciate challenges, and at times failure, knowing that these forces will only make me stronger as a person.Through my experiences, I have enhanced the ways I can serve my future patients and local communities. By understanding the many aspects of patient care, I have taken it upon myself to be a leader in medicine. The challenge of accepting loss was what propelled me to retrieve more from the medical field. I want to give patients the chance to take charge of their health before they are forced to succumb to the consequences. I look forward to working with patients as they combat declining health and walking with them through their journey of improvement.

All students, of all ages, are individuals and everyone learns in their own unique way.Learning is a lifelong process and I want to instill that passion in my students.I expect great things from everybody, regardless of skill, talent, ability, or disability.I engage with my students personally as well as academically. You can't teach everything to everyone and true learning requires many different types of knowledge. I use multiple methods of teaching (linguistic, visual, auditory, kinesthetic) to assist my students. I believe in giving students choices rather than directives. I hope they will feel empowered to learn by my method.I entered the age of education again after 20 years-- to earn my Masters in Humanities and graduated in 2014. It was quite a process to learn how to manage my time again, get reacquainted with my study habits, and of course, become diverse in my thought processes and accepting criticism about my work. Learning a new topic or refreshing your knowledge in a subject an be quite scary. I know I was terrified. But, I am here to teach my methods and relive my testimonial through my students, you can fulfill your educational goals and be successful.

I developed a love for history at an early age. I really enjoyed looking back at the past, and the exercise of thinking out why events fell into place the way they did. I felt that in order to understand history, one had to have a "proximate knowledge of many things," as the full picture of the past only unfolds with complex understanding and recognition of so many different aspects of life. Throughout my academic career, I have narrowed that interest to focus on Roman military history, an interest which I hope to pursue in the my future education. However, through my college education I studied a large variety of topics in the field of history, from sub-Saharan Africa throughout the colonial era and Cold War to American Indian culture throughout the America's in the age before Columbus. It has been my goal since high school to work as an educator, primarily to support my passion for history. I went to the University of Florida, obtaining a bachelor's degree in classical studies and history as well as a minor in education in pursuance of these goals, and have not stopped since. I have taught in a variety of environments; early in college I worked as a private swim instructor, and later in the same capacity for the University of North Florida. I have been a substitute teacher in Jacksonville, taking over as a permanent substitute for a middle school math class. I have also pursued tutoring on my own as well, primarily for Latin.Through Varsity Tutors, I am hoping to put forth my knowledge and academic expertise in the variety of areas I am comfortable to do so, but with particular focus on one area that remains a crucial point upon which our education system rest: standardized testing. I am a recent veteran of the rather arduous journey most students take through myriad tests, upon which their success and failure is determined. I have intimate experience and knowledge with the AP, IB, SAT, and GRE tests, and have spent time tutoring in the area of the SAT, as well as staying abreast of changes in testing protocol and procedure for those tests which I listed above, prior to my time here.At any rate, I look forward to working with students to achieve their academic goals, and to help drive new generations of success.
