I am currently a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC-San Diego. I am also a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University where I received two Bachelor's of Science degrees in Engineering (Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering). My tutoring experiences began while I was in High School, tutoring middle school students in Math, and since then I have been a Teaching Assistant (TA) for three different courses in Engineering. While I was a TA I found that I really loved teaching students and helping them learn, which has helped me to identify my future career path of eventually becoming a professor. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math, Physics, and Biology as I find these subjects fascinating both in and out of the classroom. My tutoring style involves breaking complex subjects down into smaller fractions and slowly building up to the whole concept, which is quite effective. Additionally, I try to relate the subjects to the real world so that the student can identify why it is important and fun to learn. Outside of the academic world, my hobbies include playing volleyball, football, or basketball, scuba diving, watching movies, reading, and hanging out with friends and family.

I am UCLA undergraduate student studying Mathematics with a focus on Finance. As you might have guessed, I tutor mathematics, ranging from arithmetic to calculus. My personal favorite is trigonometry, because of how it ties in with circles and bridges geometry with calculus. As I have excelled in math throughout my academic career, I have tutored classmates throughout the years. I enjoy helping people learn, because I think it is how we connect and evolve as people. My belief is that all students have different capacities of learning as well as different approaches to achieve comprehension of study material. As a tutor, I find that I try to find and optimize a student's preferred approach to learning, as it is usually the one that helps a student learn the most in the fastest amount of time possible for them. Be it more practice, or more in-depth explanation of the material, I try several different methods of tutoring to see what clicks with each individual student, and then continue with what works. I believe that it is essential to communicate well with a student, and the only way to understand what they don't understand is by discussing with them what confuses them without any pressure or reproach. I also focus in on areas that students lack mastery of, particularly the basics (such as arithmetic), and add extra review on those subjects, even if it isn't required. I find creating a safe, learning environment with the student essential, especially so that reviewing things that a student feels "they should have known already" doesn't feel embarrassing or reprimanding. When I'm not busy with school or work, I enjoy spending my time with friends watching TV/movies and cooking/eating good food. I am a big tennis fan, and follow most major Olympic sports.

I graduated from UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology and Neuroscience and minors in Psychology and Hebrew Language and Literature. Throughout my time in college, I continued to work on study methods to help me maintain a high level of understanding of topics while enjoying the process of learning as well. Being able to figure out what study methods worked best for me (regardless of the subject I was studying) is the reason that I believe I was successful in my undergraduate studies and is crucial in any kind of learning in my opinion.I strongly feel that focusing on what a person enjoys and using their strengths toward their advantage is the only way to help someone truly learn well and recall information correctly. This is the type of strategy that I would like to employ when I tutor your child. Because everyone learns differently, I will need to speak to the parents before the first tutoring session. The first thing I'd like to do is get to know your child by speaking to you. I would like to understand what your child enjoys to do (hobbies, sports, etc.) and what you feel is the best way your child learns. After I have a better understanding of who your child is, I will attempt to incorporate the things that your child enjoys to make the tutoring session much more fun and exciting. Whether it's through visuals, references or mnemonics, I will try to discover what works best and will continue using this method to teach your child the subjects that your child struggles with. My hope is that your child will continue to use and develop these methods of learning that they enjoy on their own as well so that one day they too can apply it to any future subject that they might struggle with.In my spare time, I enjoy sports (especially basketball), Krav Maga, the beach, traveling and meeting new people. I look forward to speaking to you and helping your child succeed in school and to help create a better path for your child to learn.

I am a recent graduate of UCLA with a degree in Biology. While I have previous experience tutoring a wide-range of subjects, being a scientist, I am particulary passionate and excited about tutoring in science and math. I also have an extensive background in standardized tests, so I would love to pass on my tips and tricks for those preparing for the SAT and ACT. Of note, something in particular that attracts me to tutoring is that by working one-on-one with a student, I am able to cater my teaching style towards his or her learning style, ultimately allowing the student to better learn the material. Beyond the academics, in my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis and hiking or exploring the outdoors.

I am a graduate of Pomona College, where I majored in Neuroscience. I am preparing to apply to medical school and hope to continue working with kids as a pediatrician.I have over 7 years of tutoring and mentoring experience, working with students from 2nd to 12th grade. I am passionate about working with students and being able to connect with them as a near-peer. My goal is to help each and every student I work with find the academic subject that sparks their passion for learning. Being a visual learner myself, I have always had to create tools, draw pictures, or make games for myself in order to learn, and I bring that to my tutoring style. I truly believe that any student has the capacity to learn and excel in academics--it's up to the tutor/teacher to find a creative way to teach! The sciences are my specialty, as evidenced by my college major as well as my medical school preparation, but I have worked with students in all academic areas, from English/Language Arts to the college application process, as well as SAT prep.In my free time, I love hiking, traveling, and cooking.

The job of a teacher or tutor involves the consideration of many different factors and variables when working with students. It is not as simple as passing on information about a subject or topic. As instructors, we must not only inform, but also explain, clarify, backtrack, bring in outside examples, and respond to challenging questions. We must comfort and relax our students, and help them develop tools for success. We know that our job is challenging, because if our job were easy, then our students wouldn't need us.I feel that it takes someone who is cognizant of all of these things in order to be a truly effective educator. During my 8+ years as a high school chemistry teacher and tutor, I have developed the experience and the skills in order to help students with challenging subjects, and not only to improve their grades, but to improve their understanding and confidence with which they approach their classes. While my own knowledge of chemistry and math is very strong, that means nothing if I can not pass it on to people learning the subjects. That is where I take pride in my abilities though - my students over the years consistently praised my ability to take complex ideas and break them down into relatable and manageable ideas. I have seen countless students struggle initially, only to succeed and flourish with a little bit of effort and assistance. If you are interested in being tutored, you are most likely a bright, hardworking student. Chemistry and math are very difficult subjects to master, and very few people make it through them without the assistance of teachers, peers, or tutors. I am here to help any students that are looking to feel more confident and comfortable, to improve their grades, to gain better understanding of fascinating topics, and to prepare themselves for the rigors of college or graduate school. I will do whatever it takes to help you master the material, drawing on my years of experience and all of the practice I have had with these subjects. I take being an educator very seriously, and I will help anybody that is looking to help themselves.

I graduated from the University of Southern California in 2013 with a degree in Biological Sciences. Now I am in my second year of medical school, once again at USC, with the hopes of either being a cardiologist or dermatologist -- still have plenty of time to decide! During college I tutored two kids in 6th through 8th grade math. I really enjoyed helping them with their homework assignments, preparing them for exams, and watching them improve in their courses. During this time, I learned how to be a very patient instructor and an effective communicator. As my dad was a high school math teacher, I also learned a few things from him about how to teach difficult subjects to students. Since I am in medical school, I obviously love science involving anything that has to do with the body, so I would be very excited to assist with biology or other topics in that area. In addition to general coursework, I'm more than happy to help with exam prep for the math, science, and writing sections of the SAT/ACT (no critical reading/reasoning...not a huge fan of that stuff!). Outside of school, I really enjoy traveling to other countries during breaks or whenever I get the chance. I love experiencing new cultures and diverse foods, and seeing sites that you can't see anywhere else.

I am currently a student at Occidental College, earning my B.A. in American Studies. I have tutored and taught students for the past five years in a variety of subjects in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Melbourne, Australia. I currently tutor in SAT writing and verbal preparation, essay writing skills, English, and Literature. My favorite subjects to tutor are definitely those that involve writing, because they provide fantastic opportunities for students to express their creativity. One of my major goals in tutoring is to help students find a passion for learning the material they are presented with. In my free time I love attending comedy shows, playing volleyball at the beach, and finding new restaurants to eat at with friends.
