I have worked with children for over 30
years, both in Private and Public Schools. I tutored 3rd graders with their essay writing program. They learned to write complete complex sentences and put them in paragraph form; Beginning, Middle, and Conclusion. I currently work Full-time at an Elementary school. I have tutored during our after school program. Here we focused on reading short texts/passages, and finding the Main Idea and Key Details. I helped the students look for the overall topic of the text, then had them highlight important information. Afterwards we worked on answering questions about the passage using Complete sentences. I encouraged the students to use the details that they had highlighted previously.
When I worked with ESL/ML (Multilingual Learners) for 2 years, K-5, assisted them with Vocabulary, Sentence Structure, Sight Words, Phonics, and other topics related to Reading/Writing. Since being in a Kindergarten classroom, I have worked with whole group doing Heggerty (Phonics), and small groups with Letter recognition, letter sounds, Sight Words, Segmenting, CVC words,letter blends, Wonders short stories, and much more.
