I am a senior at the Ramapo College of New Jersey who is majoring in computer science. I am mostly proficient in Computer Science, particularly in C++ and Python. However, I do have experience with Javascript, HTML, CSS, working with MySQL and MongoDB, and web-development. My major has required me to devote a lot of time into mathematical concepts. Therefore, I am also knowledgeable in Algebra, Pre-Calc, Calculus, and Discrete Math. Algebra is practically second-nature to me because I've worked with it so much.

I decided that as soon as I was finished with math classes like Algebra and Discrete math, that I wasn't going to use them anymore for any purpose. That's when I thought of the idea "Why don't I continue to utilize these skills while teaching others that have trouble with these kinds of subjects?" I realized that applying as a tutor for Varsity Tutors would be right for me.

While I don't really have much tutoring experience myself as of now, I was always able to provide a helping hand to many peers in my class. Throughout my time studying in school as well as helping others, I was able to figure out efficient ways to explain concepts, such as drawing it out or relating it to real-world scenarios. These strategies have helped both me and others to understand even the most complicated subjects better. I think this would come in handy when I am teaching students about tricky concepts and helping them to get a feel for it.

I want to make sure that the student fully grasps the concept before attempting to apply it. Partially-understanding a concept will not get people far and only waste time, as it may require backtracking when it turns out they were doing it wrong the whole time. I know how frustrating that is myself, as someone who used to jump into working without fully taking in everything and having to backtrack.

I am able to provide two hours a week in tutoring, preferrably virtually.
