Through my passions for literature, I have found the importance of writing and helping others be stronger writers. I am currently a peer tutor for the writing center on my school's campus where I have had the opportunity of working with a multitude of undergraduate students who need help with constructing their essays, revising their theses, working towards proper MLA/APA formatting, and many other elements that make a great paper.

I am a second year student pursuing my undergraduate in English with a minor in Media Studies. I plan on entering the field of publishing in the future.

My favorite subject to tutor is English, especially at the high school and college level. I took AP and IB level English courses in high school and am currently pursuing an English degree. I love the creativity that writing provides and it is the form of communication that connects us to our past, present, and future. Creativity has no limitations in the world of writing which is what makes it so rewarding.

My teaching philosophy revolves around letting the student guide the lesson. Especially in writing, it is not the role of the reviewer or editor to make changes they see fit in the work, rather it is up to them to make suggestions that they see can enhance the writers voice. This same ideology applies to a teacher and a student. A teacher can provide a student with the necessary skills to build upon, but it is up to the student to utilize these skills to the best of their ability.

One of my favorite strategies to use during a tutoring session is having the student read their work out loud. This provides the student to revisit their paper with a different perspective, noticing areas for improvement that they may have missed before. It also gives the tutor the opportunity to hear the paper in the voice the student had intended it to be heard. The power of voice is so vital in any form of writing, even a simple essay for a class. Ultimately, enhancing the voice of the writer is my main goal as the tutor.
