I graduated from university with a BSc in Physics and Electronics, and went on to work for some time in Electronics and software before training as a Mathematics and Science teacher in Aberystwyth. I taught in Schools in Wales, Kuwait and Spain and in an FE college in Bournemouth, with the main focus being A level mathematics. I also worked in Wales for many years developing the use of Internet in schools throughout the area. During this time I studied to achieve an MA in Education with the Open University. Since retiring from full-time work I have worked part-time as an A level examiner for Edexcel exams. While I can tutor any of the subjects I have worked with, my main preference is for Mathematics. I believe that it does not deserve its reputation as a difficult and boring subject. It should be fun; it is logical and links together in an easy and satisfying way. In my experience, many students have problems with mathematics because they have missed or failed to grasp one or more basic concepts which following studies depend on. My aim in remedial work is to identify and clarify such missing links, and inspire the students with understanding how real life depends on the ideas they are studying. In all my teaching I aim for an understanding of the concepts involved, and how they work together.
