I am currently an undergraduate at Birmingham City University in England. In that course, I study BSc Computing and Information Technology. My background in computing was through the introduction to programming as a boy, and then continuing with Python at high school. As I was continuing to learn this skill, my favourite subject at the time was Mathematics, and using my skills in that subject transitioned me to tutor Maths lessons to students when I finished high school. The relationship between mathematics and programming is that both subjects require logic, problem-solving and analytical thinking.
So, whilst my current degree is not what I have been tutoring in my short experience of tutoring students, Maths and Physics are the two subjects that I have a strong background in teaching. Currently, this has only been in the GCSE format so far, but I have also had a 2-to-3-month period teaching Physics A Level to a Foundation student studying at university.
My philosophy when it comes to tutoring students is that practice is the key to success. The more questions practiced, the more familiar the student is with the topic of those set questions. Secondly, in logical subjects like Maths and Physics (where Math-like questions are often asked in exams), showing steps is critical enabling the student, tutor and examiner to fully understand how the answer was obtained. Extra activities must be done too to encourage further practice of questions.
Outside of tutoring students, I love kickboxing. It is an activity that encourages and forces you to defend yourself against opponents. I also love programming and I aspire to become a software developer. Other activities I enjoy are also going to the gym and playing football.
