I've spent ~10 years in the software engineering industry, as an individual contributor, team lead, and manager.
I began my career studying and obtaining a Computer Science degree at the University of Maryland, College Park. While studying, I worked part-time at The Center for Advanced Transportation Technology leading a team of 7 college students in software design, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, PHP, the debugging process, frameworks, and much more.
Next, I led a team of full-stack engineers at Capital One modernizing their acquisitions platform. Similar to my experience at CATT, I was responsible for working with the teams to accomplish our goals, but also mentor employees, partner teams, interns, and other colleagues to learn the full-stack web development tech, infrastructure, software development process. I spent 3.5 years at Capital One in this role, designing, building, and deploying several major production software systems
Following that I managed several teams at Porch, a startup in Seattle, for 2 years. During that time, I was both an individual contributor and manager. I was responsible for building the business, it's software solutions, and mentoring the individual software engineers on the teams.
In December 2020, I started to work with an organization called Unloop. The program's goal is to help the formerly incarcerated get the education and experience to work in the technology industry as web developers and full stack engineers. My role as a teacher is to work through assignments, teach them about JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and other web technologies. In addition, we work on design, process, debugging, testing, project management, and documentation.
