Hello, my name is Shawna S. I am 18 years old, and am currently enrolled at University of Washington Tacoma. I participated in a running start program in high school, so am 1 year from receiving my bachelors in biomedical sciences. I work in the summer at YMCA camps, so have worked with hundreds of different children. I know what it's like to struggle learning, and I have had to adapt myself. I have a large amount of tools to help kids learn. I feel it is very important that our youth believe they are smart, and find learning enjoyable rather than frustrating.
I started tutoring when I was 16 years old. I have been tutoring homeschooled children ages 4-16 for two years, year round. I found a large passion towards working with kids with a variety of understanding. It's much different explaining things to a 4 year old and a 16 year old. Every child has a unique way of learning, and adapting to their needs in very important to me. I use visual aids, hand on material, and words to explain things. The more ways a child is exposed to information, the better they will grasp it. I will do my best to attend to you, or your child's needs. I am currently taking calculus 3, Microbiology, and organic chemistry. I am confident teaching anything below that level including all high school courses through calculus 1 and 2. Thank you very much!
I am confident teaching high school biology, general chemistry, pre algebra, algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, environmental science, history, and English.
I have a very open schedule between 2:30 and 8pm each weekday, and completely open weekends. I have a backpack full of helping tools such as whiteboards, dictionaries, counting tools, and more. I promise to do my best to help you find learning to be easier, and allow tests to be less stressful!
