*Availability note*- My schedule is normally very free, however I will be unavailable from the 7th to the 17th of September, and again from the 26th of September to Oct 4th, as I am traveling in Japan. Following these dates, my schedule is very open!
Hello! are you interested in learning Japanese? Because I am interested in helping you learn!
I can assist in a variety of subjects, but I consider Japanese to be my specialty.
I can assist up to intermediate levels, and feel very comfortable teaching complete beginners. I was self-taught in the language before going on to multiple institutions for language study, and can give you many helpful tips for self-study, and best language study practices.
I graduated in 2013 from Utah State University (USU) with a BA in Political Science: International studies with a minor in Japanese.
In addition to having taken the Japanese language courses offered at USU, I also attended the 2009 summer Japanese language program at Middlebury College in Vermont, studying intermediate Japanese. The Middlebury language program is like a boot-camp for language learners, students sign a contract at the start of the summer program, agreeing to speak nothing but their target language for the duration of the program. Following this, I then participated in a one-year exchange program to Gifu University, living in Japan from Oct. 2010 through Aug. 2011.
After returning from my study-abroad, I volunteered at my Universities Japanese language lab as a tutor for first and second year students of Japanese. I tutored students weekly until graduating 2 years later.
I have visited Japan almost yearly from my initial study abroad, and have been able to visit many of the major cities and tourist destinations throughout the country.
Japanese is easily my favorite subject to assist fellow scholars of the language in, as Japan has had a major influence on my life from an early age. From listening to the many stories of family who had lived in Japan for various business, to housing exchange students from Japan, I had a fascination with the language and culture nurtured from a young age.
When I moved to Japan in 2010, I also got caught up in some of the more modern aspects of Japanese culture that inspire many learners on their path, including modern and retro video games, anime and manga.
I especially enjoy working with beginners of the language, and helping them overcome the major hurdles that are associated learning any language, and getting ever closer to their goals of some form of fluency.
Aside from Japanese, I am also able to offer assistance in
* ESL/ELL - having experience working part time as an English conversation instructor at Gifu university during my year abroad.
* English and Writing - As a political science major, I was constantly working on minor research papers. I can assist in many kinds of basic research, themes or essays.
* PC Skills and Technology - I worked for 4 years doing front-end IT work for a small computer repair store and assisted in teaching home pc repair courses at a local technology college for many years.
I hope that I may be able to help you along your path, and wish you all the luck in your endeavors.
