Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First I would like to know the student, so we will probably have a conversation about his/her likes, why is this person taking the course and some other general topics; of course, I would tell him or her about me too. Just a fluent conversation.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

With homework! That is the only way you can be independent; you have to work on the topic, even if you are not with me.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Learning another language is an adventure, and more so when your brain starts thinking in two languages at the same time. People stay motivated when they realize how much are they learning and how much they want to translate everything. I would keep in touch with them every time they have simple questions about the vocabulary.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would make as many examples as they need, and show them with real-life events how the concept works.
