What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is visual. I would like to draw concept on paper and make sure the student grasps the material.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would like to know the student's learning style. I realize that every student learns in a different way. I would like to find out how much knowledge does the student have.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would assign practice problems. I would encourage the student to complete practice problems.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would encourage them, give them positive feedback, and make the material less confusing.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would break down the material in simpler terms to understand.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would try to break down the sentences into words, and words into letters.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Drawing concept maps, and writing out everything on a piece of paper.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would like to make studying the material a fun experience.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would draw out the concept map, and write everything on a piece of paper with every step of the process.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I would give them easy problems to solve, which gives them the confidence that they can do it.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I would ask the student what he/she believes and determine the strengths and weaknesses.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I am very flexible, meeting them every week, working on their weaknesses.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use a piece of paper and a pen/pencil.
