My name is Larry and I reside in Milwaukee, WI. I have been married for nearly 20 years and have 2 wonderful daughters. Education is very important in our family as we have all graduated from college. Some of my hobbies are sports and listening to old school music. I have a strong passion to help others that are in need of help.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By giving them the confidence they need in order to understand the subject matter.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By testing and evaluating their progress. Also, to have them set goals.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I will revise our lesson plan accordingly.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I will find material that will help aid them in their comprehension and use it as a learning tool. I will quiz and test their knowledge constantly to see if they are understanding the material. I will also use any tools that the tutoring company can supply that will help in the learning process.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
To make the subject matter as fun and interesting as possible.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I like to try and relate the subject matter to things that are important to them.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Practice problems/questions. Also, have the students test their knowledge by testing me.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By giving them honest feedback on their progress.
What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is to be very hands-on.
