A wise man, Nelson Mandela, once said Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. While some believe this is true and others do not, I am 100% for education. Each and every day, we are students. Each and every day, there is something new to learn. Growing up, Ive always mentored and tutored as one of my hobbies. It was always a passion of mine, to learn a subject and then to share my knowledge, with others as so they would share with the next group of students they encountered.
During my academic career, I attend College of St. Elizabeth, in Morristown, NJ. I initially went into college with hopes of becoming a Criminal Defense Lawyer. Not too far before I graduated in May 2016, I realized becoming a lawyer wasnt my passion. I was more passionate in developing students to become better versions of themselves and finding their skills and talents through a school system. I then realized, what I was most passionate about, which was becoming a Skills and Development Coach, an Educational Leader, or a Director of Career Affairs/Student Engagement. Ive learned within my 4 years of college, that I was most intrigued with direct relationships you can build with students and I wanted to contribute to the development of students. Although, I double majored in Criminal Justice and Psychology with a minor in Business, I feel that I was still able to obtain the necessary education to potentially be effective in someones life.
Over the years, my tutoring experience has been in subjects such as English, Math, Composition Writing and some elements of Science. These have also been acclaimed to be my most favorite subjects, as well. The reason why I would say English is my favorite subject, reason being because with English, one can be as creative as you want to be and express your unique sense of self. No matter what the assignment is, there will always be different and inimitable approaches developed by each student.
As far as my teaching style goes, I would say two of my desired techniques would be hands on collaboration and demonstration. I feel that with experience, these have been most effective, for my students and for myself. Many people tend to be visual learners and most would rather see a demonstration done before they are able to try themselves.
Some of my interests outside of academia are music and swimming. I have been a violinist for 13 years and love to play all genres of music. I have performed at three weddings, a few banquets, and plenty of concerts. Swimming is not a sport for me, as to why Im not the best at it, but more so a hobby and exercise. I always feel relieved after Im done swimming.
For the most part, I am much of a people person. I describe myself as outgoing, fun, unique, and definitely an extrovert! I love meeting people and building new friendships as well as participating in a lot of volunteer opportunities in building communities. I hope that you have learned and are intrigued by some of my characteristics! Im sure we will do great together.
