Hello, I am a second year kindergarten teacher. I have worked with all ages of kids from kindergarten through 6th grade. I have helped students in elementary schools catch up in math and help them learn to read.

When I am not working or doing homework of my own, I enjoy hanging out with my family, doing long distance runs and working out, and scrapbooking.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know the child and learn what difficulty they are having with the subject to understand how to help them.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Having a place where the children can dream of what they see in the future and where they feel that their place in society will be is so essential to build and expand upon. With the help of my teachers back when I was in elementary school, I was able to dream and decide what I wanted to be when I grew up. Every teacher did something that was helpful and important to my learning, but also made a lasting impact on me to be able to fuel my fire and give me a vision of what I wanted to do when I got my own classroom. It is my goal and dedication to do this as well and create a lasting memory that inspires the students to go for their dreams.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By giving the students the confidence they need, it will help them become more independent in their learning and feel confident in knowing that they are achieving the correct answer.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would try to understand what the child is struggling with and then break the skill or concept down, as well as make the learning enjoyable so they can enjoy the lesson and absorb the information.
