I found my love of math when I was in my 8th grade Pre-Algebra class. Although it was a piece of cake for me, I saw the stress it caused some of my classmates. It was at that time that I decided I wanted to teach Math. I wanted every student to know that Math does not have to be intimidating. And that they can succeed at it with the right attitude and effort. Upon completing high school, I continued my education at St. Philips Community College, and then transferred to the University of the Incarnate Word where I received a BA in Mathematics.

I taught high school Math for six years. I taught Geometry, Algebra 2 and Math Models. But I primarily taught Algebra 1 to freshman students. I knew that freshman already had anxiety entering high school and wanted to ease that stress in their Math class. After teaching, I began private tutoring. Tutoring has allowed me to give more specified instruction and focus to students. Students who really have the desire to learn are able to have one on one assistance with achieving their Mathematical goals.

I currently tutor in many Math subjects: Elementary and Middle School Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus and College Algebra. I also tutor students for preparation of state standardized testing. I enjoy tutoring Algebra 1 the most, that is my specialty!

I believe that you can teach anyone anything as long as you can engage them. When tutoring I like to first get an understanding of the student's strengths and weaknesses. I like to explain things in great detail, and use real world examples to ensure student understanding and success. I like to tutor according to the learning style of each individual student. I also like to keep in mind any learning disabilities a student may have. This individualized instruction aids in helping students grasp the concepts that they are studying.

When I'm not tutoring, I like to watch television, read, play computer games and spend time with my immediate family and my church family. I also enjoy doing logic puzzles and creating Math curriculum to aid teachers and students alike.
