I have been teaching for 7 years. I have taught everything from Pre-K to college. I am a certified teacher in math 5-9, K-6, Reading, ESOL, and ESE. I teach a learning strategies class on a regular basis but I enjoy working with students of all ages. I focused on basic reading skills and phonics in my master's program. However, I am a math and science person at heart!

I enjoying teaching people how to learn and helping them find out the way that they learn best. I focus a lot on strategies to help the students learn to be self-sufficient. I think organization and time management is very important. I provide step by step instruction and help the student learn how to break down problems to better tackle it and find the solution. I believe it is important to understand everyone learns differently and I enjoy helping others find the way that they learn best and learn how to use it to be successful.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that every student can learn, but each learns differently. My job is to find out how the student learns and be able to teach the student, not only the content but to help them understand how they will best learn material and understand the concepts going forward.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a first session with a student, I will find out information about the student, get to know them. I will get a sense of how they learn and where they are in the content area.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by scaffolding, and teaching that student not only the material but how they learn and how to use the information.
