Let me begin by saying I have an enormous enthusiasm for and a commitment to lifelong learning. I firmly believe that acquired knowledge through education, either formal or informal, is fundamental to a rich, productive life. With learning comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes responsibility. That is, the responsibility to act on that knowledge for the betterment of those within one's sphere of influence. Through education, my passion is to inspire learners to enrich humanity with the knowledge they acquire.

I have a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. My area of focus as a counselor is addiction and substance abuse. Prior to earning my MS, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Southern University A & M and worked for more than 15 years as an accounting applications consultant/developer in the petroleum industry. My work as a consultant afforded me the opportunity to teach and train end users on software products and system functionality in a variety of settings, ranging from classroom-type instruction to one-on-one learning sessions. Although I tutor numerous subjects, I most appreciate writing, study skills and organization, and English, as I feel that mastery of these areas are foundational to educational success.

As an educator, I endeavor to help 21st Century learners prepare for an increasingly globalized world by developing a skill set that will prepare them to thrive in a multinational, multilingual, multicultural environment. That skill set of course includes the present focus on math, science, technology, and the basics. But it also extends to critical thinking skills to help them make sense of the explosion of information from different sources around the globe, and a sense of "cosmopolitanism," which is the idea of world citizenship that promotes a duty to humanity, the earth, and our environment.

In essence, I advocate an educational approach and atmosphere that prepares learners to become "global citizens". One that inspires learners to use their knowledge to ensure a better environment for allfor with knowledge/awareness comes responsibility.
