What is your teaching philosophy?
asdfsadf
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
First of all, if you are stuck on something, I will relate it in every way possible to the real world. I have a unique ability to relate complex concepts to everyday situations.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I try to break the text down into pieces to understand it better. Once you understand each part, then you can put them together to understand the whole text.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
In today's media age of having all information at our fingertips, I utilize the Internet and find examples of the subject within areas of the student's interest.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would get to know the student and have them explain to me what their problems with the subject are. Once I have a better idea of the problems, I can start building a strategy to help the student succeed.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Motivation is the key to being an independent learner. I will do my best to help a student find what motivates them to learn the subject.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will help them keep focused on their goals because goals are what help keep us motivated.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I have found that everyone is different. That being said, you have to find what works for that student.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
First, you need to know the student's learning style. By knowing the learning style of the student, I can focus on helping them within those parameters.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Find what they can do with ease and start there. Starting with the harder material first can just lead to frustration.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I question them about their instructor's methods of teaching them. I read through their notes to see if there is a disconnect between what they wrote down and the material that was presented. I ask about resources they have implemented and see if any resources I can give them will help.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I adapt my tutoring to the needs of the student by being flexible and patient.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Internet resources, articles, books, and other forms of media that the student finds interesting.
