I am a senior Mechanical Engineering major at Carnegie Mellon University. In high school, I scored very highly on the SAT Math section and Math II subject test. I also excelled in Calculus 1 and 2 during my freshman year at CMU. I have previous experience in tutoring from teaching introductory Algebra to a class of 30 students entering high school. Due to a busy semester, I am unavailable during the week for in-person tutoring sessions, but I can make time during the weekend to schedule consistent meetings.

Relevant subjects that I feel comfortable tutoring in:

Algebra 1
Algebra 2
Pre-Calculus
Trigonometry
AP Calculus AB
Calculus 1
SAT Math
SAT Math Level II Subject Test

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Clear documentation of steps and repetition are the keys to understanding a subject.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First, identify the type of problems that are giving the student trouble. Then, go over the concepts behind solving those problems, and ingrain the information with practice problems.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Once the process of completing a problem is mastered, the student can apply the steps from previous problems to his current homework.
