I will help you reach your math goals! I am a former Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry teacher. I also have experience tutoring middle school and elementary school students. I earned my undergraduate degree in Economics from Brown University, and my Masters in Education from Loyola Marymount University. I currently work as the Associate Director of Programs for a non profit organization that puts student centered curriculums in schools and after school programs. I seek every opportunity to help students succeed and feel good about their academic experiences. As a tutor, I believe in learning about my student and his or her needs first, listening to my students goals, setting collective goals, and emphasizing growth (growth WILL HAPPEN!). I stay patient and provide specific steps for concepts. I am clear in my responses, I ask questions, I check for understanding, and I remain encouraging!

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Provide clear steps to increase understanding, show examples, provide encouragement and assistance through difficult problems, and celebrate growth!

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Break the concept down by steps, show multiple examples that incorporate the student's interests, and provide alternative ways to understand the concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Patience--there's no time limit on comprehension! We will slow down and actively read by underlining, highlighting and annotating.
