The fundamental goal of teaching is to foster learning. Although every student has a tremendous capacity to learn, learning takes place under many different circumstances, different contexts, and in different environments. I believe that the desire to learn is the most critical prerequisite to effectively master new concepts and skills. Students of all ages have many different learning styles: some learn best through lectures, others by group discussions, and others through individual efforts or actual hands on experience. The classroom setting can therefore encourage or inhibit learning depending on the dominant learning style of each student. As a result, educators need to make a concerted effort to accommodate different learning styles in order to create an atmosphere that is conducive to all types of learning. Students take many of their learning habits from their instructors. Thus, an instructor needs to demonstrate not only a passion for the subjects they teach but also a passion for finding the most effective ways to convey that information to their students. This passion will, in turn, will ultimately foster a passion among students to learn.

My job as a teacher is to create an atmosphere that fosters this kind of learning learning. I chose to teach because I have a passion for the material that I teach as well as a passion for guiding students through the learning process so that they can develop an appreciation and understanding for the material I teach. One of the best ways to foster learning is to demonstrate those feelings to my students. I encourage learning by creating a relaxed environment for students, stimulating conversation about concepts that I present, and organizing material in a way that makes it easy to understand. I try to present subject matter in a way that students can understand its usefulness in real life situations such that everything they learn fits together into a holistic understanding of the world.

One of the most important concepts I hope to impart to students is that learning is a process that never ends. I plan to continue developing as a professional by utilizing different teaching methods in order to create effective learning environments for all students.
