Our fist instructors are our parents. They are the ones who teach us life lessons and the value of education. They are the ones that can influence our children to value education and instruction. Teaching to me is a joy. I enjoy expressing whether it is on stage, in a classroom, or within the confides of my home. It is through this expression that content can be related to students. This is my position on education. Take something that is of interest to the student and then correlate it and spin it to instruction.

Establishing an education career that spans over the course of 20 years has been a remarkable journey. I have taught students within the retail industry as a HR Manager that instructs new hires, drama and film for our local drama summer camp, a self-contained classroom at a Charter School, and currently I teach 7th graders Humanities focusing on Language Arts and Social Studies at Linus Pauling Middle School in Corvallis, OR. My bachelor's degree is Secondary Education History from Western Oregon State University.

I enjoy travelling, athletics and spending time with my wife and two sons. I'm lead teacher for our Corvallis Travel Club where each year we take Middle and High school students to an International and a domestic destination.

Q & A

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Encouragement. Nurturing students response, even though an answer may be incorrect, if it is explained in a thoughtful, nurturing way as to why the answer is in error, this will establish a relationship. It also increases trust as to the next question. Once the correct answer is given, celebration, if only a high five, can be a motivator.
