I am a graduate of James Madison University. I received a Master of Teaching in Elementary Education PK-6 and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies, Minor in Education and concentration in Math, Science and Technology. I am extremely excited to continue my passion for teaching children and helping struggling students! Growing up, I had my share of problems with school, which I now can use to better relate to my students. Having much experience in the classroom with all age levels, I have gained insight on the different ways to approach various topics and content knowledge. Throughout college I was very involved with the public school system around the area. At first, I was a math tutor for students K-8; then a mentor for a student to formulate better study habits and work ethic; and to conclude my college career, I student taught in various grade levels. Working one on one in a tutoring session, I really like to relate to the student and connect their experiences to what we are learning about. These connections trigger interest which then triggers motivation to learn. Being a creative and enthusiastic person by nature helps me form a positive relationship with my student so that they can trust that I will be able to help them. When I am not focusing my time on teaching, you can find me at a dance class, hanging out with my three brothers, or simply relaxing at the beach with a good book.

As a writer who became established with years of practice, schooling, and personal growth, I know the pain that comes with writing. Having learned a great deal from some of the greatest writing professors, I know how to connect with other writers, relate to a topic at hand, and mold a piece into the best it can be.I have collaborated with fellow writers in peer reviews so much that I know and care about the work of others. I take joy in learning from the criticism of those at the same learning level as I am. The critique of a teacher versus that of a fellow student can often feel different. Having recently graduated from college, I can teach as though I am your classmate.Finding the smallest piece of relevancy in a topic makes it all the more easy to write and care about what you're writing. I know the struggle of writing in topics I have no interest in, and I know how it feels to really care. Your best writing shows when you take the time to reflect and build upon your ideas.I am a writer who looks forward to growing from my students, hoping that they learn too, from myself and about themselves!

Hola! I have taught Spanish for five years at the high school level. Unlike many other Spanish teachers I did not like Spanish in high school. In fact, I struggled a lot with it. However, after high school I was able to live in Mexico for two years and learned to love the language. Because of these experiences I know what it is like to struggle with the language, but I also know ways to make learning it easier and more understandable.Through college I also gained experience writing essays and research papers. I acquired valuable knowledge and techniques in formal writing.I currently work for my church as a director of religious education throughout western Pennsylvania. I have degrees in Philosophy and Religion (as well as Spanish) which give me a broad knowledge base and skills in textual analysis and application.

I have studied math through multivariate calculus, and while at JMU took advanced courses in physical and quantum chemistry. I am extremely familiar with general chemistry, and tutored throughout my junior and senior with the JMU Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. All of this means, I am very proficient in explaining chemistry and math to both beginners and students who are dealing with more rigorous courses like AP and college level chemistry. My first two years of college were the most difficult because I didn't know how to study. I mimicked the ways that my professors taught as a study tactic, and often found myself ill-prepared for tests. After toying around with different studying methods, I found that illustrations, repetition, and asking why or how worked best. This academic journey set me up for success academically and professionally! I hope to help students nurture studying habits that can do the same! I've studied a myriad of different scientific and mathematical disciplines and feel comfortable tutoring biology, chemistry, nutrition, algebra, and pre-calculus, among other topics! I've also completed a minor in French, which has made me moderately proficient in French grammar, reading, writing, and comprehension.

Math is used frequently in everyday life, so we could work with sports, music, trees, pools, card games, or other things you are familiar with, when setting up problems to solve. Math is also unique as a subject, because we can always know an answer is correct by proving it or doing reverse operations to double-check our results.
