I am a graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University where I am studying Public Administration. Before I enrolled in school, I traveled to Beijing, China, where I taught Language Arts, Pre-Algebra, and Environmental Science at an international school. While I lived in Beijing, China, I enjoyed traveling to famous landmarks such as the Great Wall and Summer Palace. In addition to teaching at an international school, I spent my time tutoring English to elementary students at a private academy. My expertise teaching English includes grammar, writing, and speaking. I also enjoy teaching math because I can make the subject interesting by using real-life examples. As a graduate student, I value education and I believe good knowledge should be shared when possible. I am passionate about helping a wide variety of students, from students who struggle with basic concepts in math and reading to students who excel in their class. When I have spare time, I like to travel around Richmond and explore new restaurants.
Beginning in high school, I loved tutoring. Since then, I have tutored children and adults, including some individuals with special education plans, throughout my time in college and law school. Now, as a law school graduate, I have passed the New York bar exam and am interested in helping students further. As a writer who became established with years of practice, schooling, and personal growth, I know the pain that comes with writing. Having learned a great deal from some of the greatest writing professors, I know how to connect with other writers, relate to a topic at hand, and mold a piece into the best it can be.I have collaborated with fellow writers in peer reviews so much that I know and care about the work of others. I take joy in learning from the criticism of those at the same learning level as I am. The critique of a teacher versus that of a fellow student can often feel different. Having recently graduated from college, I can teach as though I am your classmate.Finding the smallest piece of relevancy in a topic makes it all the more easy to write and care about what you're writing. I know the struggle of writing in topics I have no interest in, and I know how it feels to really care. Your best writing shows when you take the time to reflect and build upon your ideas.I am a writer who looks forward to growing from my students, hoping that they learn too, from myself and about themselves!
As a dedicated tutor with a Master's degree in Forensic Psychology from George Washington University and a Bachelor's in Psychology with a Minor in Special Education from James Madison University, I am passionate about fostering a supportive learning environment for my students. My teaching philosophy centers on creating engaging and interactive lessons that promote critical thinking and confidence. I am motivated by the opportunity to help students achieve their academic goals and develop a love for learning. I have a passion for the language arts and love reading and writing while also valuing math and science. In my free time, I enjoy playing and watching sports, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
I am a classroom teacher with 18 years of experience in grades 6-12. I also have three years of tutoring experience in college level writing, both in person and online. I enjoy working one on one with students and helping them achieve personal growth.
I truly enjoy teaching and helping children reach their maximum potential in all subject areas. Learning should promote children's self-esteem and I always look to find ways to engage my students in order to inspire them to be life long learners. By differentiating my instruction, I am able to help students progress towards the standards in which they are working to achieve.
I've tutored extensively in individual and group settings. While in college, I worked for a local high school tutoring groups of students through the AVID system. At the same time, I also tutored an individual who was failing four out of his five core classes. In three classes he had less than a 40%, and was in danger of dropping out of school. After four weeks of tutoring, he was passing all his classes. He graduated on time the following year and now attends community college.I'm a great tutor because I have a comprehensive understanding of all subjects, and a extensive understanding of English and literature. I scored fives on my English Language and Literature AP exams, and have only continued my English abilities by studying English in college. I also communicate well and can explain material in a way students can understand. More than just teaching material, I encourage and build confidence in students who feel insecure and unable to learn because of past failures in their school work.
