My name is Aakash Mehta, and I love teaching. I graduated from James Madison University in 2020 with a B.B.A. in Finance. My hobbies include but are not limited to golf, reading, pool, and of course teaching! I have had a long history of tutoring ranging from my high school days to current. I have taken great pleasure in tutoring a variety of subjects to a multitude of students and watching them grow and succeed. I especially love teaching math, science, and reading/writing. In the past, I even ran an organization called KAST (Kids are Scientists Too) in which the group would travel to elementary schools and teach students science as well as conduct experiments! Teaching is an incredibly fun and productive experience, and I take great pleasure in helping students reach their full potential. I am very creative with my teaching style and work to mold my tutoring strategies to fit the different learning style of each student. I look forward to being part of many success stories!

My teaching philosophy centers on meeting students where they are, building confidence through understanding rather than memorization, and tailoring strategies to individual learning styles. My experience spans peer mentoring, special needs classrooms, and anatomy lab instruction, where I learned to translate complex ideas into accessible insight. I'm passionate about tutoring because it allows learning to become collaborative, empowering students to think critically and independently.

I am certified in English Language Arts 6-12 as well Library Media K-12. Since entering Kindergarten, I have loved school! Even into adulthood, I seek out educational opportunities, always desiring to learn something new. Pinpointed, literature is a passion of mine. Travel is not always an option, but through literature, readers are able to find themselves in different places, cultures, and time periods . . . to get swept away in a world of new experiences, thoughts, and ideas. Reading is a gift! Equally as important, writing is a vital skill in our 21st century digital age. Our society needs clear, thoughtful, and factual messaging as well as pieces of personal expression. I have experience teaching in elementary, middle, and high school classrooms, and I look forward to helping students grow in their understanding and love of English Language Arts.

Credentials: I received my BA in Mathematics from Mary Baldwin University's Program for the Exceptionally Gifted when I was 18 years old. I also have a MS in Computer Science from James Madison University. I hold CISSP, Pentest+, and OSCP certifications. Experience: I have 6 years of experience teaching at the college level at University of Maryland Global Campus. The classes I have taught include: CMIT 386 Penetration Testing and Cyber Red Teaming CMIT 495 Current Trends and Projects in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity (Capstone) CMIT 425 Advanced Information Systems Security CMIT 321 Ethical Hacking I have also taught hands-on courses on penetration testing, reverse engineering, web application security testing, mobile security, and exploit development at cybersecurity conferences on six continents such as Blackhat, DEF CON, Brucon, Security BSides, and SecZone. I have also taught at training centers such as TSTC in Veenendaal, Netherlands. I have taught material I created myself as well as other organization's materials. I have experience teaching EC Council's Certified Ethical Hacker and am a Certified Ethical Instructor. I have also taught online through my own consulting company as well as for virtual conferences during the COVID-19 pandemic and for training companies such as O'Reilly. I have created highly popular on-demand training content for platforms such as Cybrary and Pentester Academy. I wrote Penetration Testing: A Hands-On Introduction to Hacking to be the learning resource I wished I had had when trying to independently learn penetration testing. That book has gone on to sell more than 15,000 copies in 5 languages. I later developed an accompanying online video series for Cybrary which has been viewed by more than 50,000 students. Collectively the books and video series have been cited by countless students as the resource most responsible for their pursuing a career in cybersecurity. Approach: I first became a teacher and tutor out of frustration at the lack of resources that were available to beginners in my field of cybersecurity. Though there is much more information available now, when I began my career in cybersecurity, I encountered many gatekeepers and esoteric knowledge bases. I began teaching introductory courses at cybersecurity conferences to help other newcomers, particularly women, minorities, and the neurodiverse get the prerequisite knowledge needed to excel in cybersecurity careers. Given the nature of what I most often teach, my approach to teaching is often dictated by the method of delivery. For example, if I'm teaching in person, I have much more flexibility than if I'm teaching online. Similarly, if I'm teaching a day long class things will be quite different than if I'm teaching a semester long class. I prefer using a student-centric/constructivist approach wherein the students are aware of the content that we are to cover and I assist those who encounter problems. However, the nature of our industry most often requires me to take a teacher-centric lecturing approach. When possible, I try to punctuate that with intermittent small-group instruction and/or project-based instruction. In general, I try and find the approach that seems to work best with the class or student that I'm tutoring. I am on the autism myself and am very familiar with the "girls can't computer" mentality of some in our industry. If you student is struggling with confidence, I am the tutor for you. I am particularly interested in helping women, minorities, and the neurodiverse. I am well versed in working with varying learning styles as well as neurodiversity such as autism, ADHD, etc. It is my belief that neurodiversity can be a super power and am committed to helping students find learning strategies that work for their brain.

Hola! I have taught Spanish for five years at the high school level. Unlike many other Spanish teachers I did not like Spanish in high school. In fact, I struggled a lot with it. However, after high school I was able to live in Mexico for two years and learned to love the language. Because of these experiences I know what it is like to struggle with the language, but I also know ways to make learning it easier and more understandable.Through college I also gained experience writing essays and research papers. I acquired valuable knowledge and techniques in formal writing.I currently work for my church as a director of religious education throughout western Pennsylvania. I have degrees in Philosophy and Religion (as well as Spanish) which give me a broad knowledge base and skills in textual analysis and application.

I am a two-time graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, receiving a bachelor's degree in English in 2008 and a master's degree in secondary education in 2009. Since graduation, I have worked teaching high school English and coaching wrestling in a relatively poor and rural district just south of Richmond. Though I am fully qualified and capable of tutoring any subject related to English, one of the things I have enjoyed the most success with as a teacher is preparation for standardized tests. I also very much enjoy teaching British literature and the writing process. There is no better feeling to me than seeing the gratitude in a student's face when he or she exceeds expectations and can go on to complete the next step in his or her educational journey. My first two years of college were the most difficult because I didn't know how to study. I mimicked the ways that my professors taught as a study tactic, and often found myself ill-prepared for tests. After toying around with different studying methods, I found that illustrations, repetition, and asking why or how worked best. This academic journey set me up for success academically and professionally! I hope to help students nurture studying habits that can do the same! I've studied a myriad of different scientific and mathematical disciplines and feel comfortable tutoring biology, chemistry, nutrition, algebra, and pre-calculus, among other topics! I've also completed a minor in French, which has made me moderately proficient in French grammar, reading, writing, and comprehension.

I've tutored extensively in individual and group settings. While in college, I worked for a local high school tutoring groups of students through the AVID system. At the same time, I also tutored an individual who was failing four out of his five core classes. In three classes he had less than a 40%, and was in danger of dropping out of school. After four weeks of tutoring, he was passing all his classes. He graduated on time the following year and now attends community college.I'm a great tutor because I have a comprehensive understanding of all subjects, and a extensive understanding of English and literature. I scored fives on my English Language and Literature AP exams, and have only continued my English abilities by studying English in college. I also communicate well and can explain material in a way students can understand. More than just teaching material, I encourage and build confidence in students who feel insecure and unable to learn because of past failures in their school work.

I believe it is my job to provide students with the tools to solve chemical problems, not to solve problems for them. The most common problem I've encountered in learning Chemistry is application. An individual can understand Geometry because they can build a fence. You can understand Physics because you can calculate how fast a baseball is thrown. But how do you understand problems on a molecular scale? I've successfully battled this obstacle since I was a sophomore in college and I look forward to continuing to succeed with my students.Outside of being a tutor, I love all things soccer. As a writer who became established with years of practice, schooling, and personal growth, I know the pain that comes with writing. Having learned a great deal from some of the greatest writing professors, I know how to connect with other writers, relate to a topic at hand, and mold a piece into the best it can be.I have collaborated with fellow writers in peer reviews so much that I know and care about the work of others. I take joy in learning from the criticism of those at the same learning level as I am. The critique of a teacher versus that of a fellow student can often feel different. Having recently graduated from college, I can teach as though I am your classmate.Finding the smallest piece of relevancy in a topic makes it all the more easy to write and care about what you're writing. I know the struggle of writing in topics I have no interest in, and I know how it feels to really care. Your best writing shows when you take the time to reflect and build upon your ideas.I am a writer who looks forward to growing from my students, hoping that they learn too, from myself and about themselves!
