The student and I went over problems dealing with scientific notation. I incorporated significant figures into the practice problems to reinforce that concept and we also multiplied/divided really large and really small numbers that she had to put into scientific notation to solve. She picked this up really quickly and had almost no problem solving all the problems I had created for her.
