I recently graduated from Duke University with a BA in Public Policy. I am in New York City studying acting, and I want to bring the same energy, enthusiasm and compassion that is required on stage to my students. I have experience tutoring for the SATs, and I have had significant experience serving as a mentor to younger students, particularly in the university setting. I love coaching and helping students discover their intellectual passions. Most importantly, I am thrilled by the prospect of helping a student set concrete goals and progress towards actualizing them in an academic realm. But above all I want to work with students to help them develop strategies that are personally effective and furthermore that link their passions with their education.

Hello! My name is Akanksha, and I am an Environmental Engineering major at Cornell University. I am incredibly passionate about sustainability and I enjoy mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Apart from Environmental Engineering, I am interested in Aerospace Engineering and Architecture, and I plan to pursue a minor in both of these fields. Outside of school, I hike and play golf for fun, but I also tutor several students. In high school, I worked at Kumon Learning Center and assisted students with their math and reading coursework. I am also currently a tutor for the STEP program at Cornell, where I teach middle school and high school students chemistry and mathematics. I am very comfortable tutoring in various STEM subjects (i.e. calculus, algebra, geometry, chemistry, physics, environmental science), and I enjoy tutoring sessions with students very much.

I am a student at Georgetown University working towards a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management & Policy, and I plan to attend medical school after graduation with the goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. For the last few years I have been working as a tutor in a variety of subjects, mentoring students both in Washington, D.C. and my home state of New Jersey. Because of my educational background that combines the rigorous science of the pre-med curriculum and the myriad fields included in management and policy analysis, I can not only tutor several subjects, but also relate new or difficult topics to my students preexisting knowledge to improve understanding and conceptualization of the material. I have found that, with discipline and consistent effort, students are able to attain complete mastery of subjects they previously struggled with. Consequently, while the material itself is important, I also work with my students to develop productive routines and build consistency in their personal studying habits. I dedicate myself to my students success, and I am willing to work through any manner of difficulties with those students who put forth a determined effort. Lastly, I am flexible and willing to work with the varied schedules of my students, recognizing that there may be weeks where you must prioritize other endeavors. Outside of academia, my hobbies include personal training, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and weightlifting; carpentry and basic woodworking; hiking, camping, and the outdoors; and more.

Hello! My name is Doug and I am currently a student at Princeton Seminary. I graduated with a B.A. in History and Biblical Studies (double major) in Dec 2013 from Grove City College. After graduating, I worked as a museum teacher in the historic-industrial city of Lowell, MA where I taught a variety of programs that highlighted both historical and scientific aspects of the Industrial Revolution. Through this job, I learned the importance of "hands-on" activities in helping convey complex ideas in tangible ways. This job also provided opportunities for me to develop techniques that would help engage students' attention with a topic that they may or may not be interested in. During this time, I was also a youth intern at my church, working and teaching kids ranging from pre-K to high school. Working with such a wide range of kids taught me how to be flexible with presenting my teaching materials and how to relate with kids from all different stages and walks of life. While I have the most experience teaching history and religious studies, I am also comfortable teaching other topics (math, science, etc.) for elementary and middle school students. I have a passion to teach and work with kids at all levels. I think it's crucial in teaching to personally know the student and then adapt the lesson so that it best fits the student's personality and learning style.I look forward to hearing from you and getting to know your student to best support and encourage their growth through learning.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Cell Biology & Neuroscience and Psychology from Rutgers University, my Masters of Arts in Medical Sciences from Boston University and my M.D. from Saint George's University. I have tutored many students, primarily in Neuroscience, but am passionate and knowledgeable about the world of biological science as a whole. The inner workings of anatomy, physiology, biological chemistry and many more are all within my ken. Having been through so many of these tests I have unique insight into the best methods by which a student can both learn the material and be ready for any form of question that might come their way. I believe in customizing my teaching method to best suit each individual's strengths and compensate for any possible weaknesses. The goal I aim for is to prepare the student to be flexible and comfortable with the material and ready to change their approach as the needs of the test change. In addition to my devotion to education I am an avid lover of Formula 1 Racing and cycling.

As an educator and professional writer, I'm passionate about helping students from all academic backgrounds develop confidence in their verbal skills. I earned my MA in English from Rutgers University, where I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and distinctions. I've taught and tutored students in English Composition I and II and remedial writing. I also scored in the 98th percentile on the GRE writing section and the 92nd percentile on the GRE verbal section. As a teacher, I strive to meet the unique needs of each student. While such individualized practice applies to all pedagogies, it is even more important in the area of writing and verbal skills.Effective educational practices are grounded in evidence-based strategies. Nonetheless, teachers must be prepared to meet the unique needs of students, taking into account their abilities, areas of weakness, and personal motivations.Too often, students come away from academic experiences with a diminished belief in their capacity to achieve. Teachers need to be honest with students about their current skill level. However, feedback must be given in a tactful way that recognizes the student's inherent abilities, unique talents, and potential for change. In the classroom, I believe teachers should emphasize a growth mindset. Writers and life-long learners aren't born. They are taught through skill building and practice. Thus, feedback on student writing must be individualized. When students receive one-on-one attention in this way, they can develop confidence in the teacher's dedication to their success, and more importantly, their own potential. Tailored feedback provides an achievable action plan for student improvement.Students can go anywhere for automated, generic information. Increasingly, free, open-access courses from organizations like Coursera provide the same knowledge students get in the classroom. However, students enrolled in college-level courses or tutoring deserve individualized, tailored feedback.I'm excited to work with you!

I love to teach. The feeling of pride in someone else's accomplishment, the intellectual challenge of explaining a concept to someone else, the joy of seeing when it clicks in the student's head...those are only a few of the benefits that I get from teaching. I work tirelessly to tailor my lessons to my students' personal learning style to ensure their success, and I'm grateful for every opportunity I have to help students through teaching and tutoring.
