I recently graduated from Duke University with a BA in Public Policy. I am in New York City studying acting, and I want to bring the same energy, enthusiasm and compassion that is required on stage to my students. I have experience tutoring for the SATs, and I have had significant experience serving as a mentor to younger students, particularly in the university setting. I love coaching and helping students discover their intellectual passions. Hello! My name is Akanksha, and I am an Environmental Engineering major at Cornell University. I am incredibly passionate about sustainability and I enjoy mathematics, physics, and chemistry. After graduating, I worked as a museum teacher in the historic-industrial city of Lowell, MA where I taught a variety of programs that highlighted both historical and scientific aspects of the Industrial Revolution. Through this job, I learned the importance of "hands-on" activities in helping convey complex ideas in tangible ways. This job also provided opportunities for me to develop techniques that would help engage students' attention with a topic that they may or may not be interested in. During this time, I was also a youth intern at my church, working and teaching kids ranging from pre-K to high school. Working with such a wide range of kids taught me how to be flexible with presenting my teaching materials and how to relate with kids from all different stages and walks of life.While I have the most experience teaching history and religious studies, I am also comfortable teaching other topics (math, science, etc.) for elementary and middle school students. I have a passion to teach and work with kids at all levels.
